Shinwa's Lee Min-woo expressed concern about hospital bills for his third-generation Zainichi Korean wife.
On the 8th episode of KBS2's Mr. House Husband, Lee Min-woo was shown revisiting the obstetrics clinic with his wife, Ms. Lee A-mi.
That day Lee Min-woo explained, "A detailed examination was needed so we had one, and the impression was that the umbilical cord position was not normal and it would be good to have the test again, so today is the day for a re-exam, so we went."
Arriving at the hospital, Ms. Lee A-mi complained, "(My body is) heavy. It's hard to breathe." The doctor they later met said, "(At 34 weeks) it's a very heavy gestational age. It feels like everything is going to fall down, the pubic bone hurts and the back hurts," he said.
Lee Min-woo said, "When we were in Japan there was also a time of bleeding. It was around 25 weeks of pregnancy." At that time, Ms. Lee A-mi, who was living alone in Japan and teaching Pilates to cover living and medical expenses, confessed, "I didn't want to burden oppa so I booked a few classes that were a bit of a stretch. When I started bleeding I contacted the hospital right away."
The doctor, hearing this, said, "That gestational age is a time when bleeding should not occur," and added, "We refer to it as a marginal cord. This happens in about 7 to 9 percent of all pregnant women. If the baby is not growing properly or there is growth restriction, you need to watch carefully, but we'll check again with ultrasound today to see the condition." However, the test results showed the baby's growth was within the normal range, differing from the average by two days. With the heartbeats also clearly audible, Lee Min-woo and Ms. Lee A-mi showed great relief.
After finishing the tests, Lee Min-woo went to the reception to pay the hospital bill and was startled to see tens of thousands of won in medical fees. Watching this, Lee Yo-won explained, "Because insurance didn't apply, it seems to have come out about 10 times more expensive."
Eun Ji-won sighed, "So health insurance doesn't apply," and Lee Yo-won said with regret, "The paperwork procedure takes time. Apparently health insurance can't be applied immediately."
Lee Min-woo asked, "If this is covered by insurance it will drop a lot, right? Right now the conditions mean health insurance benefits don't apply." He honestly shared his hardship, "I actually thought that once we registered the marriage we would immediately receive medical insurance benefits, but because she is an overseas national, I was told that if she registers she must stay for about six months to receive health insurance benefits. So frankly, in the current situation, paying hospital bills and medicine costs is really a burden."
Meanwhile, Lee Min-woo plans to marry his third-generation Zainichi Korean wife Lee A-mi in May next year. Ms. Lee A-mi was once divorced in the past and has a daughter, Mi-jjang (nickname), from her previous husband, but Lee Min-woo expressed on the broadcast his intention to adopt Mi-jjang as his own child.
