In "My Ugly Duckling," Bae Jeong-nam showed signs of pet loss syndrome.
On the 9th, Bae Jeong-nam appeared on the SBS variety show "My Ugly Duckling (Miwoo-sae)".
One month after his dog Bell left, Bae Jeong-nam, who consulted a pet expert, said, "The pain of parting I felt for the first time in my life. After Bell left, until two weeks I couldn't keep my wits about me," and "I didn't even want to go out and meet people. From morning I would wake up, drink and keep crying," he said, conveying his sadness during that time.
Bae Jeong-nam recounted the hours he spent each day in pain after Bell left. He said even the paths where they used to walk were sadder.
They asked whether it might be "pet loss syndrome." "Pet loss syndrome" is a condition in which guilt, depression and lethargy occur after a pet leaves. The specialist said, "If this is left alone, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) symptoms may develop," adding that it leaves not a happy sadness but a deep sorrow that makes one suffer at the sight of a dog, and "the memories shared together could lead to anxiety disorders and social isolation, so it must be overcome."
Fortunately, the specialist said about Bae Jeong-nam, "Positive aspects can be seen," and asked, "Don't you post a lot on social media related to the departed Bell?"
Regarding Bae Jeong-nam's recent posts of memories with Bell, the specialist said, "That's very good. Usually, if there is no one to empathize, pet loss worsens," and "That can be a tremendous strength and help you get better," he said.
Not only actual fans but also Ahn Bo-hyun, Lee Hyun-yi, Byeon Yo-han, Lee Si-eon, Kim Goeun, Lee Ha-nee and others left encouraging messages on social media, and Bae Jeong-nam said, "Reading the encouragement made me feel I wasn't alone," expressing his gratitude.
