Singer Sung Si-kyung reportedly covered out of pocket the loss suffered by a victim of a no-show scam that impersonated his YouTube program "Would you eat?" The news came after Sung was revealed to have been embezzled out of several hundred million won by a manager who worked with him for more than 10 years.
On the 7th, a post by a business owner identified as A, who said the person was victimized by a no-show scam, was uploaded to Sung Si-kyung's YouTube channel board.
A said, "I am a business owner who filmed 'Would you eat?'" and "In May, I received a call about 'Would you eat? best restaurants reshoot,' and I suffered a financial loss of 6.5 million won to a scammer who asked for money to prepare expensive whiskey."
A said, "I belatedly checked with Sung Si-kyung's side and learned it was a scam, and after reporting it to the police, when I was dazed and out of it, a call came from Sung Si-kyung," adding, "Sung said that being scammed by someone impersonating his name was partly his responsibility and persuaded us that he would deposit the damages, and we accepted the money."
A said, "The message, 'I made the deposit. Don't worry and stay strong,' will remain in my heart for the rest of my life," adding, "Thanks to Sung Si-kyung, I was able to quickly pull myself together and return to everyday life."
A also said, "Sung Si-kyung always tells us to make sure to receive everything, not leaving out even a single drink, whether dining in or taking out," adding, "When the bad news started coming out in the media this time, I said I wanted to publish the fact that I was compensated for the no-show scam to help even a little, but he declined. The Sung Si-kyung I experienced is honest and does not know how to show off, and with that thorough integrity, is an upright person."
In addition, "It is only heartbreaking to think how much someone like that must be hurting and struggling right now. I hope the good news spreads widely," adding, "I sincerely hope this trial is overcome well and that, in good health, he gives comfort and inspiration to even more people."
Previously, it became known that a manager who worked with Sung Si-kyung for more than 10 years caused financial damage to Sung, related parties, and outside contractors.
Sung Si-kyung's agency, SK Jaewon, said, "It has been confirmed that Sung Si-kyung's former manager, during employment, engaged in conduct in the course of duties that betrayed the company's trust," adding, "Based on our internal investigation, we recognize the seriousness of the matter and are verifying the exact scope of the damage."
It continued, "The employee in question has now left the company," adding, "We fully acknowledge our responsibility for management and oversight, and we are reorganizing our internal management system to prevent a recurrence of similar cases."
