Cha Jung-min, the eldest son of actors Cha In-pyo and Shin Ae-ra who has worked as a singer and producer, will marry this month.
According to News1 on the 7th, Cha Jung-min will hold a wedding with his non-celebrity partner on the 29th at a location in Seoul. The wedding will be private, and only family and close acquaintances will be invited.
Cha Jung-min's bride-to-be is reported to be the daughter of a retired executive of a large company, and the two have been childhood friends. After maintaining their relationship as friends, they became a married couple.
Cha Jung-min told a media outlet, "I have been friends with my bride-to-be since childhood. We will live happily," offering a brief comment on his marriage.
Born in December 1998, Cha Jung-min is 28 by Korean age this year. He debuted in 2013 as the composer of Compasión band "Because we became friends" and appeared on Mnet's audition program "Superstar K5" that same year.
At the time, Cha Jung-min sang his original song, saying, "I was doing it alone because I disliked people saying I rose because of my parents' influence, but my father mentioned it on the broadcast," but judge Yoon Jong-shin advised, "Change it to composition."
He later studied practical music at Azusa Pacific University in the United States and continued activities as a singer-songwriter under the stage name 'NtoL.' In 2021 he released a song called "Mom" dedicated to Shin Ae-ra.
Meanwhile, Shin Ae-ra and Cha In-pyo married in 1995 and welcomed their first son in 1998. They later publicly adopted two daughters.
Shin Ae-ra and Cha In-pyo showed doting-parent behavior as they supported their son's musical activities. In 2021 Shin Ae-ra wrote on her personal account, "My husband wrote, 'My son Jung-min, who has been diligently making music for five years, this time newly interpreted Scott Joplin's ragtime. I couldn't keep it to myself so I'm sharing it.' Like all parents, we too seem to be doting when it comes to our children. The jacket photo is pretty," she said.
Also, eldest son Cha Jung-min is known to have received homeschooling in the past. On a broadcast Shin Ae-ra confessed, "My son attended a very good elementary school. That led to parents with very high academic zeal. The children expressed their stress to their friends," and she said, "I felt it went beyond what elementary school students should do. My son suffered," revealing the school violence he experienced.
In response, Shin Ae-ra said she decided on homeschooling and explained, "I wanted to make my son a bit stronger inside and send him out into the world, so we homeschooled for the sixth-grade year."
Later Shin Ae-ra revealed specific school violence her son suffered. She said, "My son is tender-hearted. But because he was a celebrity's son, he became a target of bullying at school," and added, "One child kicked my son's chest on the stairs, told him to bring money, and even put socks and underwear in the toilet. Hearing that made my blood boil," she said.
