Comedian Hong Yun-hwa sweetened Friday night with her distinctive cooking skills.
Hong Yun-hwa continued her second challenge as the masked contestant "Microwave" on Channel A's variety show "Mask Chef," which aired on the 7th.
After winning round 1 in the previous episode and advancing to the final showdown with judge Chef Jung Ji-seon, Hong Yun-hwa again confidently entered as a challenger on this episode. Hong Yun-hwa appeared with lively music, brazenly demanding an escort before switching to a shy attitude and instantly lifting the atmosphere. She even drew praise from the judges as the "favorite mask," flaunting a loveliness that shone through the mask.
Facing her second challenge, Hong Yun-hwa confidently declared, "I'll grit my teeth and do my best." In round 1, where each contestant makes the dish they are most confident in, Hong Yun-hwa chose chuck flap tail as the main ingredient, and all the judges focused on how she, using a microwave, would handle the chuck flap tail.
Also, Hong Yun-hwa's unique skill of measuring ingredients by eye and feel without scales drew admiration. Among the three contestants who displayed clear personalities, Hong Yun-hwa's steadfast approach to cooking captured not only the judges' attention but also viewers' eyes with its bold charm. Moreover, her calmness in quietly completing the menu even with little time left also stood out.
The judges who tasted Hong Yun-hwa's cooking heaped praise, saying, "Can this be done with a microwave?" and "Amazing." However, Hong Yun-hwa failed to get past the round 1 hurdle this time, stopped her challenge and removed her mask. She commented, "It was so much fun. I was so glad to be able to show many people that there is an easy way to make a dish I often eat. It was a delightful time as you ate well and cheered for me."
After her formal challenge ended, a surprise extra match followed at Hong Yun-hwa's request. She challenged Chef Jung Ji-seon with her signature weapon, "jajang ramen." KCM, who was also eliminated in round 1, joined the close contest, and Hong Yun-hwa created a unique jajang ramen with her own recipe. But after tasting Chef Jung Ji-seon's jajang ramen, she freely admitted defeat, saying, "I actually prefer that one," bringing laughter.
In this way, Hong Yun-hwa completed a successful challenge on "Mask Chef," showcasing a chef persona full of "dopamine" from the cooking process to the taste of the food.
