Group BLACKPINK's Rosé and the film 'K-pop Demon Hunters' have been nominated for major Grammy Awards, raising expectations for an actual win.
On Feb. 7 (local time) the Recording Academy released the nominees for the 68th Grammy Awards, and "APT.", sung by Rosé and Bruno Mars, was nominated in three categories including song of the year and record of the year, which correspond to the general fields.
Also, the Netflix film that shook the world this year, 'K-pop Demon Hunters', had its OST "GOLDEN" nominated in five categories including song of the year, and Catp I, an American girl group produced by HYBE, was nominated in two categories including best new artist and best pop duo/group performance.
A K-pop genre song being nominated for the Grammy Awards is the first time in three years since BTS was nominated in three categories at the 65th Grammy Awards.
In particular, this is the first time a K-pop artist has produced a nominee in the Grammy's general fields, which correspond to the major awards, and it is also the first time a K-pop female artist has been nominated. In addition, it is notable that all the songs nominated for this year's Grammy Awards are songs by K-pop female artists.
Both "APT." and "GOLDEN" enjoyed global popularity, raising expectations for the possibility of actual wins.
Meanwhile, the 68th Grammy Awards will be held on Feb. 1 next year at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles. About 23,000 entries were submitted across 95 categories for this year's Grammy Awards. Grammy winners will be decided by final voting of about 15,000 Recording Academy members from Dec. 12 through Jan. 5 next year.
