HYBE and Geffen Records' global girl group KATSEYE was nominated in two institutional sector categories at the Grammy Awards, the world's most prestigious honors.
The Recording Academy, which administers the Grammy Awards, on Feb. 8 (Korea time) announced the list of nominees for the 68th Grammy Awards to be held in 2026. KATSEYE earned the distinction of being named in the Best New Artist and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance institutional sector categories, with Best New Artist often translated as "best new artist."
In the Best New Artist institutional sector, they compete with Olivia Dean, The Marías, Addison Rae, sombr, Leon Thomas, Alex Warren, Lola Young and others.
The Best New Artist institutional sector is one of six general fields and, along with record of the year, album of the year and song of the year, is considered one of the "big four" major institutional sector categories. It is the first time a K-pop group, or a group created through K-pop methodology, has been nominated for Best New Artist — KATSEYE is the first.
KATSEYE was also nominated in the Best Pop Duo/Group Performance institutional sector for their hit "Gabriela." They will compete with Defying Gravity, performed by Cynthia Erivo & Ariana Grande from the film Wicked; Golden by HUNTR/X, the girl group from the KPop Demon Hunters phenomenon; APT. by Rosé & Bruno Mars; and 30 for 30 by SZA & Kendrick Lamar, among others.
KATSEYE's nomination shows that this rookie group, not yet two years since debut, is achieving remarkable results in the global music market.
ABC News praised the significance of the achievement, saying, "It is rare for girl groups to be nominated in major Grammy institutional sector categories, and a nomination for a global girl group is even more exceptional." CNN also highlighted their rapid rise in an article titled "The Grammy proves KATSEYE is having its best year."
The 68th Grammy Awards ceremony is scheduled to be held on Feb. 1 next year (local time) at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, U.S.
