Singer Seong Si-kyung is reported to have been betrayed by a manager who had worked with him for more than 10 years, and good stories about him are pouring in. He compensated victims out of his own pocket when they were scammed by someone impersonating his channel name, and he received support from military comrades and fans of 20 years.
Recently, fans' messages of support have been pouring in on Seong Si-kyung's YouTube channel. Hurt by a manager who felt like family, and saying "Hanju Co. I'll rest for just a week," he stopped YouTube.
In particular, one netizen introduced themselves as a "victim of a no-show scam impersonating a celebrity" and drew attention by sharing Seong Si-kyung's good deed. He, who had filmed Seong Si-kyung's YouTube corner "Meok-eultende" said, "On May, I received a call saying it was a reshoot of 'Meok-eultende,' and I suffered a financial loss of 6.5 million won to a scammer who demanded money to prepare an expensive whiskey."
He went on, "I later confirmed with Seong Si-kyung's side and learned it was a scam, and after reporting it to the police I was in a daze when the phone at the store rang. Seong Si-kyung persuaded us, saying that being scammed by someone using his name was also his responsibility and that he would deposit the compensation, and as if possessed I accepted the money," and explained the situation, "He sent a message saying, 'I've deposited it. Don't worry and stay strong.' That message will really remain in my heart for life. Thanks to Si-kyung, I was able to pull myself together quickly and return to my daily life."
He added, "When this bad news began to appear in the media, I wanted to publicize that I received compensation from Si-kyung for the no-show scam to help even a little, but he refused, saying it was too embarrassing," and, "The Seong Si-kyung I experienced is so honest and doesn't know how to boast, and his thorough honesty made him a dignified person." He revealed the good deed to support Seong Si-kyung after bad news continued following the manager's betrayal.
Not only good stories but also fans of more than 20 years and military comrades came forward to cheer Seong Si-kyung. Another netizen wrote, "08-13 class, 12th division, 2nd company trainee No. 5 cheers for hyung. He says that wherever he is, he is the same now as then. My proud comrade, stay strong."
Another netizen, who had not met Seong Si-kyung directly, recalled that when taking a taxi after a late-night shift 10 years ago, the previous passenger was Seong Si-kyung and the driver remembered saying, "He was really polite and seemed like a nice person," as if boasting. Fans also said in unison, "I wanted to say that there are people who quietly support you," and, "We've been around longer than the manager. We've been fans of hyung for more than 20 years. We're here," cheering together.
On the 3rd, Seong Si-kyung posted a long message on his social media and expressed his feelings, "The past few months have been a continuous time of real anguish and hard to endure. I experienced my trust being broken by someone I believed in, cared for and thought of like family. It is not the first time in my 25 years since debut, but at this age it's not easy."
Seong Si-kyung continued, "I tried to maintain my daily life and pretended to be fine because I didn't want to cause people worry or fall apart, but I felt that my body, mind and voice suffered a lot while handling YouTube and scheduled performances," and added, "I want to be in a state where I can confidently say 'I'm okay' both mentally and physically."
His agency, SK Jaewon, also said in an official statement that day, "Seong Si-kyung's former manager has been confirmed to have betrayed the company's trust in the course of performing duties while employed. Internal investigations recognize the seriousness of the matter and are checking the exact scope of the damage." In particular, the manager is known to have been a longtime associate who worked with Seong Si-kyung since his previous agency and to have been close enough that Seong Si-kyung covered the wedding expenses in full, which has caused shock.
