Former soccer player Lee Cheon-su, who was sued on charges of fraud involving hundreds of millions of won, has reached an amicable settlement with the accuser, A.
On the afternoon of the 7th, Lee Cheon-su's agency, DH Entertainment, said, "We would like to speak regarding the recently raised fraud allegations against Lee Cheon-su," and issued an official statement saying, "The incident arose from a misunderstanding by the accuser A, and on Nov. 7 Lee Cheon-su and A reached an amicable settlement."
It added, "After rechecking the facts, it was confirmed that the accuser had misperceived some details and acknowledged that the defendant Lee Cheon-su had no intent to defraud or deceive," and said, "Accordingly, the accuser A no longer wants an investigation or punishment and has decided to officially withdraw the complaint."
Lee Cheon-su's side also emphasized, "Lee Cheon-su and A understood this matter as a happening that arose from a misunderstanding and resolved it amicably. As our side has properly settled this incident, we hope there will be no further speculative remarks or spread of rumors."
Earlier, the Jeju Provincial Police Agency booked Lee Cheon-su on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment of Specific Economic Crimes (fraud). A complaint was filed last month at the Seogwipo Police Station in Jeju, and the case has since been transferred to the provincial agency.
The accuser A, who sued Lee Cheon-su, was a long-time acquaintance; they were in a close brotherly relationship but their relationship soured over financial matters. A recently completed the accuser interview.
According to the complaint filed by A, in 2018 Lee Cheon-su told A, "I don't have any significant income right now, so please lend me living expenses," and "I plan to run a YouTube channel and a soccer school within a few years, so I will repay everything by the end of 2023," and promised to do so. Because Lee Cheon-su promised repayment, A sent money several times. Including 3 million won sent on the day a request was made, A transferred a total of 132 million won over nine instances for living expenses and other needs through April 2021.
However, A alleged that Lee Cheon-su cut off contact around the fall of 2021. A claimed that Lee Cheon-su did not repay a single won by the end of 2023 and, even after generating income from running a YouTube channel and a soccer school, has not returned A's lending.
A also alleged that Lee Cheon-su encouraged an investment, saying, "If you invest 500 million won in a foreign exchange futures trading site, I will distribute monthly revenue and return the principal," and that A sent 500 million won to B, an acquaintance of Lee Cheon-su, but received only 160 million won back.
In response, Lee Cheon-su's side rebutted, "It is true that money was received from the other party, but it was money given by A for him to just use," and said, "Because there was no intent to deceive, the claim of fraud is not true." Lee Cheon-su's side added, "There is an intention to return the money to A."
Furthermore, Lee Cheon-su's side denied the investment solicitation related to the foreign exchange futures trading site as "completely baseless," drawing a line by saying, "There was no introduction or recommendation to invest."
