Singer and TV personality Defconn revealed the backstory of the late Kim Joo-hyuk's departure from "2 Days & 1 Night."
On the 5th, a video titled "In autumn, crabs... I'm Ge-fcon! 2 days and 1 night in Seosan | And the hyung I still miss" was posted on the DefconnTV YouTube channel. In the video, Defconn visited Kim Joo-hyuk's grave himself on the 8th anniversary.
He said, "This year, it looks like I won't be able to attend on the exact date because of my schedule, so I came," and added, "The writer nuna and PDs from '2 Days & 1 Night' come down together when they have time, but this time I came down first."
He said, "I absolutely can't clear my schedule on the death anniversary, but this hyung understands everything. Since some time has passed, it's not about going in a heavy mood but about visiting with a glad heart."
Holding a can of beer, he laughed and said, "This hyung can't drink much. But he liked exactly one can of beer, so I brought it." He added, "He would say, 'Pcon, you came? I'm watching you well.' The vibe is good these days. I think it's the result of building my skills after connecting with hyung."
Defconn also, for the first time, shared the circumstances back when Kim Joo-hyuk decided to leave "2 Days & 1 Night."
"About a year and six months into '2 Days & 1 Night,' a call came from hyung's agency head. He said, 'Joo-hyuk has to start another project, so it seems he needs to leave. He felt sorry and couldn't bring himself to say it, so I'm calling instead,'" he recalled. "Hyung also said, 'I joined agreeing with the producers to do just one year, but I've grown so attached that it's hard to quit.'"
He revealed, "Usually, when someone has to leave because of scheduling, we don't try to hold them back. But I was so sorry to see him go that I said, 'Hyung, finish out two years and then leave.'"
Defconn said, "That kind of request usually isn't allowed, but hyung really did complete two years and then left. That's how much he liked us and cherished the time we spent together. With this hyung, I truly felt he was a 'hyung.'"
He said, "I sometimes miss him. If it were hyung, I'm sure he would have said, 'Work hard and do your best every day,'" expressing his longing for the deceased.
Actor Kim Joo-hyuk died in a rollover car accident on Oct. 30, 2017, at age 45.
