MBC's new variety show '극한84' (directed by Park Su-bin) is once again drawing attention after releasing a promotional video for 'Kian84 running crew recruitment'.
In the released video, Kian84 recalls past challenges and says, "It's been three years since I properly ran. After the 2023 Cheongju Marathon and the 2024 New York Marathon, I'm taking on a new marathon after a year," announcing the start of a new journey. This time, rather than running alone, he sets out to find running comrades, 'running mates', and curiosity is growing about who will become Kian84's new partner.
He conveyed the positive energy of running, saying, "There's nothing bad about running. It helps with weight loss, improves stamina and skin, makes life peaceful and makes your mental health better." He then elicited laughter with a witty remark, saying, "If many people ran, wouldn't national competitiveness(?) improve too?"
While seriously explaining the benefits of running, Kian84 expounded on the 'real charm of Kian84-style running' with his characteristic offbeat thoughts that many people would find appealing. "Who you run with is very important. These days young men and women form running crews based on shared interests and hobbies and run together. As running crews grew, dating apps failed in the U.S.," he said, offering an unexpected anecdote that provoked laughter.
He went on, "When you run, blood flows well to the brain, so conversations apparently go really well. You can comfortably ask things like 'What are you doing this weekend?'" he said, describing in his own way how running has become a new culture that connects people. In particular, he added, "I have no ulterior motives, but I would like to show young people gathering to run," and his concealed personal interest, despite claiming none, added to the humor.
He expressed his expectations for a running crew that will grow together, saying, "I hope one person is someone who runs better than me, and another is someone I can pull along." He emphasized, "Even if you complete just 5km, it's enough if you have the will to want to run and the desire to run well."
Kian84 said, "I've heard that many people started running after seeing me run before," and added, "I hope '극한84' can inspire people who are starting to run or who are already running. I ask for a lot of support," conveying his sincere wish that more people feel the charm of running through the program.
Through this preview, Kian84's image has expanded from an 'extreme runner' to a 'runner who shares challenges,' raising expectations for the program.
Meanwhile, MBC's ultra-extreme running variety show '극한84' will premiere on the 30th (Sun) at 9:10 p.m.
