The group NewBeat said they watched performances by senior artists EXO and ENHYPEN to study sexiness.
NewBeat released their first mini album 'LOUDER THAN EVER' at 12 p.m. on the 6th through various online music sites and made a comeback, and earlier held a release commemorative interview at the OSEN building in Mapo-gu, Seoul.
The new album "LOUDER THAN EVER" clearly presents NewBeat's direction toward the global stage, consists entirely of English lyrics so that anyone can intuitively relate to its messages, and contains a tasteful sound.
In particular, the title track "Look So Good" centers on confidence and a spirit of challenge, conveying a message of proving one's potential on stage. It reinterpretates the retro sensibility of early 2000s pop R&B in a modern way, delivering a positive energy that anyone can be the lead.
The members said they worked hard to perform precise choreography on this album. Choi Seohyun explained, "Because the song is orderly and refined, even breathing felt regulated. If the first album was powerful, this time the lower body stayed relatively still and movement focused on the upper body. We added delicate movements and even aligned our gazes to match the precise choreography."
When asked how much practice time they invested, the members said, "From our experience this time, group practice was three to four hours, and it felt like we did it every day for almost a month," and Choi Seohyun added, "Because the choreography has a teacher, I mainly coordinated the group based on what we learned in lessons, and it wasn't a coercive style; we practiced in an atmosphere of creating it together."
Jeon Yeoyeojung said, "On the first album we had a powerful hip-hop genre with an aesthetic of controlled messiness. We kept that aspect, but when covering senior artists' choreography as trainees, we matched sharp angles and lines. Because of that experience, Seohyun led and it seems we practiced the precise choreography under her guidance."
Kim Taeyang said, "I studied expressions by watching fancam videos of senior EXO and senior ENHYPEN. I compared while watching fancams, and I think we've developed further while preparing this album."
When asked about concrete goals they hope to achieve with this album, Jeon Yeoyeojung said, "I really want to win first place on a music show at least once. I also hope that by working hard to get onto digital charts, many people will listen to our music."
When asked about NewBeat's role model, Park Minseok said, "My fandom for senior Seventeen is so strong I call myself a Carat. Looking at jacket cams or fancams, they deliver performances that are the epitome of precise choreography despite having about twice as many members as us. Watching their stage, you could feel the closeness among members."
Park Minseok said, "Living as seven members isn't easy, so I was envious of groups with twice as many members who perform precise choreography and convey a family-like closeness. We wanted to emulate senior Seventeen, and seeing them renew contracts and continue for the long run made us want to do the same. Recently, solo songs by members were included and I saw their concert stages; I hope we can each do solo stages or show diverse performances."
Finally, when asked if they had any determination to show fans, NewBeat said, "Eight months felt short if you look at it that way, and long if you look at it that way, but thank you for waiting," and added, "We returned with a different concept, and everyone came back cooler and more complete, so look forward to it and be ready for your nosebleeds."
Meanwhile, NewBeat is scheduled to meet fans by releasing the new album "LOUDER THAN EVER" at noon on the 6th.
