The new TV CHOSUN Monday-Tuesday miniseries "Because there is no next life" (directed by Kim Jeong-min / written by Shin I-won / produced by TMI Group, First Man Studio, Megaphone), which is scheduled to premiere at 10 p.m. on the 10th (Mon), is a comedic coming-of-age story about three 41-year-old friends exhausted by the daily sameness, the war of parenting and the hamster-wheel of work, stumbling toward a better "complete life."
In "Because there is no next life," Kim Hee-seon plays Jo Na-jung, a former promising home shopping host who is now a "return-to-work mom" with two sons; Han Hye-jin plays Gu Joo-young, the art center planning chief who makes every effort to have a child with a sexless husband; and Jin Seo-yeon plays Lee Il-ri, a deputy editor at a magazine who has fantasies about marriage.
In this regard, Kim Hee-seon, Han Hye-jin and Jin Seo-yeon draw attention with a "drinking-session real-friend talk" scene that moves between their 20s and 40s. In the drama, Jo Na-jung, Gu Joo-young and Lee Il-ri gather on the rooftop "Il-ri BAR" that Lee Il-ri made during the peak of their 20s in 2011, raising their glasses to the sky and exploding with the energy of having the world. By contrast, in 2025, the 40-year-old Jo Na-jung, Gu Joo-young and Lee Il-ri quietly pass drinks in a living room full of their children's belongings, holding a drinking scene weighted with the reality of still wandering through trial and error, drawing attention. The narratives of the three close friends, whose looks and styles have changed and who are each at different emotional temperatures, invite attention.
Meanwhile, Kim Hee-seon, Han Hye-jin and Jin Seo-yeon heightened immersion with three distinct, detail-rich, everyday performances in the "extreme temperature-contrast reunion" scenes of 2011 and 2025. Kim Hee-seon transformed with wavy hair and a comfortable T-shirt into an "acting-mom moment," stealing the spotlight. Han Hye-jin also changed from the fresh ponytail and flouncy outfits to a professional career woman's medium bob and shirt. Jin Seo-yeon, who wore long straight hair in her 20s, transformed into a striking wavy short cut in her 40s, drawing attention. In addition, the authentic everyday acting captured by the three actresses with different personalities drew empathy from everyone on set and heated the atmosphere.
