Singer G-DRAGON (G-Dragon) conveyed his philosophy and sincerity as an artist.
On the 5th, G-DRAGON appeared on the MBC current affairs and culture program 'Son Seok-hee's Questions 3'. He was recently appointed an official APEC publicity ambassador and was awarded the 'Ok-gwan Cultural Medal' at the 'Korea Popular Culture and Arts Awards', establishing his status as a representative Korean artist. Breaking a long silence, he met Son Seok-hee again after 10 years and shared deep stories about being the 'human Kwon Ji-yong who returned to reality after finishing The Truman Show', his philosophy and sincerity as an artist, and a new beginning.
That day G-DRAGON captured attention from his entrance with fashionista-level tasteful styling. He wore a beige jacket with a black line as a focal point paired with a blue shirt, and completed his unique personality and refined mood by wearing his signature hat and a daisy-shaped brooch.
After a long break and now one year since his comeback, G-DRAGON calmly described his direction as an artist and internal changes. He said, "Ten years ago, every moment of daily life was basically spent performing as 'G-DRAGON', so I always wanted to do well and pursued perfection, deliberately whipping myself to keep going," and added, "During the break I think I became able to switch work and life on and off. I definitely gained leisure, and each day is precious."
G-DRAGON said the advice he heard from Son Seok-hee 10 years ago—'don't lose your touch'—remained in his memory for a long time, and he opened up about his musical concerns, which drew listeners in. He said, "'Do' is a verb. Whether you don't do it, can't do it, or do it well, ultimately 'do' is the same, so you must choose wisely. If you are going to do it, you want to do it well, but I always think about how often the public's evaluation of one's choice and result match. Now I feel I'm getting closer to a somewhat proximate answer."
G-DRAGON also talked about the story he wanted to put into his third full-length album 'Übermensch'. He said, "'Übermensch' was one of the driving forces that helped me endure during the break. I wanted to introduce it because when various situations and environments changed, I thought I could recall this word," and added, "'PO₩ER' is a humorous satire about the media. What I could do during difficult times was express myself through music, and it is a song I wrote based on my experiences."
He particularly drew attention by comparing his life to the film 'The Truman Show'. He said, "During an extremely sensitive period, absurd things kept happening and I felt as if I were inside The Truman Show," and he continued with stories about returning to reality after finishing The Truman Show and becoming stronger, which resonated with viewers.
He also explained his philosophy and convictions about music. As he previously said at the welcome banquet performance for the 2025 APEC leaders' meeting, "I believe music has the power to connect all of us beyond borders and language," he said, "I don't think music needs to be divided by generation. Even different languages have become able to converge, so there is no barrier to accepting differences."
G-DRAGON also mentioned the moment his dream was born and his plans going forward. He said, "When I was young I didn't know, but the desire to show people more led to practice, and through learning that became a dream. What I lost over 10 years was time, but instead I learned ways to handle things more wisely with time, rather than acting emotionally like I used to."
He said about his plans after activities, "I think a comma is necessary. After the comma I plan to prepare for a new start." He also mentioned Big Bang, which marks its 20th anniversary next year, saying, "As we reach the 20th anniversary, I even think a 30th anniversary might be possible."
Above all, on this broadcast G-DRAGON did not lose his characteristic humor and insight even in a relaxed and comfortable atmosphere. His candid conversation showed the present of the artist who returned to reality after finishing The Truman Show and the still-growing human Kwon Ji-yong, making the next 10 years even more anticipated.
Meanwhile, G-DRAGON is continuing the final leg of the 'G-DRAGON 2025 WORLD TOUR [Übermensch]', which began in Korea in March and has been touring worldwide. Following concerts in Hanoi on the 8th and 9th, he will hold encore concerts for three days from Dec. 12 to 14 at Seoul Gocheok Sky Dome, capping off the world tour.
