'You Quiz on the Block' Choi Hong-man said he was small during his school days.
On the 5th broadcast, the tvN variety show 'You Quiz on the Block' (hereinafter 'You Quiz') featured mixed martial artist Choi Hong-man in an "endless struggle" special.
That day Choi Hong-man said the reason he started ssireum was that while playing with friends on the beach in Jeju, he caught the eye of the ssireum team. He said, "In the third year of middle school the Jeju ssireum team noticed me. I had never done sports so I refused, but over time they kept tempting me. They said if you join the sports team there will be lots of food in the refrigerator and you won't have to worry about eating. I gave in to that," he said.
He added, to laughter, that at the time he was dancing on the Jeju beach and then received the ssireum team's offer.
Although Choi Hong-man boasts great height and a large build, he said he was small and frail in childhood. He said his nickname in first year of middle school was "narrow millet" and "I was smaller than average until second year of middle school. I was so weak I sat in the very front. From second year of middle school until I graduated high school I grew steadily more than 1 cm per month," he said, drawing surprise.
He said he was 185 cm in the third year of middle school and 190 cm after entering high school, adding, "There were many times I was surprised looking in the mirror. My knees often ached. It was ticklish," he said.<
