Lee Cheol-ho of the band Love and Peace revealed why he remained single and unmarried until age 74.
On the first episode of the MBN variety show Unforgettable Duet, which aired on the 5th, Lee Cheol-ho, the vocalist of the band Love and Peace known for the hit song "You were absent for a while," appeared with his elderly mother.
Lee Cheol-ho's mother Kim Jeong-ok is 94 this year and had white hair, yet she boasted a bright complexion and a cheerful impression. However, she was losing her memory to dementia.
The Unforgettable Duet production team prepared and presented a "memory bus" full of the elderly mother's memories for Lee Cheol-ho and his mother. The "memory bus" included a headset familiar to the mother from working at a U.S. military base and photos taken with her husband, who passed away earlier, and her youngest son.
In particular, Lee Cheol-ho not only lived alone caring for his elderly mother but also raised his nieces and nephews after his youngest brother, the late Lee Myeong-ho, passed away. Lee Cheol-ho said, "I didn't think my brother would go so soon. Still, he left the children behind. They are not my children. The nieces and nephews ended up living together. We lived together. More than me raising them, they listened well and grew up well."
Insun, who visited the memory bus with them, said, "Senior Lee Cheol-ho didn't even marry and raised all his nieces and nephews." Jo Hye-ryeon marveled, saying, "He raised them like his own sons," and Jang Yoon-jeong choked up, saying, "Because he lived like that, he seems to have missed the marriage season. He cared for his mother and raised his nieces and nephews."
In the past, the mother once wrote a letter saying, "Hurry up and get married to make my heart happy." Lee Cheol-ho added with a tearful smile, "I just don't get married. Living like this with my mother is my happiness. I will continue to live happily with my mother." <
