Group NCT member Jeongwoo (signed to SME) successfully completed the musical concert "This is PESTE" and further expanded his range as an artist.
The musical concert "This is PESTE," in which Jeongwoo performed, was held for three days from Oct. 31 to Nov. 2 at Yonsei University Grand Auditorium in Seoul, and is the concert version of the musical "PESTE," which reinterprets Albert Camus' novel "The Plague" with music by Seo Taiji.
In this production, Jeongwoo played the role of Dr. Rieux, the epitome of kindness and sincerity, vividly portraying the inner life of a character who confronts chaos with unwavering conviction and a sense of justice to save the city of Oran from an epidemic, not only through his outstanding vocal ability but also with subtly changing eye expressions and gestures and narration that carries the flow of the play, heightening the production's immersion.
From intense, powerful numbers that showcased commanding vocals such as "T'IK T'AK," which depicts overwhelming fear, and "I Know," a warning to the world, to softer-voiced, lyrical songs conveying love such as "To You," and "Sad Pain" and "COMA," which expressed sadness and confusion in hushed vocals, to the hopeful "TAKE FIVE" and "LIVE WIRE," sung with a wish for peace, he brought audiences into the story naturally by perfectly handling a range of emotions across genres with solid skill.
Jeongwoo said, "It was a great honor and a meaningful experience to sing the music of my respected senior Seo Taiji. I was very nervous at first, but having prepared hard for a long time, I approached it with the mindset of doing my best in the role entrusted to me, like Rieux. Thanks to the audience members who supported me until the end, I was able to finish the stage well, and it became an opportunity for me to grow further. I will repay you with an even more developed self in the future. I am always sincerely grateful."
Jeongwoo will hold a solo fan meeting, "Golden Sugar Time," at Ticketlink Live Arena (Handball Gymnasium) in Olympic Park, Seoul, on the 28th, with two shows at 3 p.m. and 8 p.m.
