The Wednesday night broadcast on the 5th of MBC's Radio Star (planned by Kang Young-Seon / directed by Hwang Yoon-Sang, Byun Da-Hee) is presented as a "JYPick Eut Jja!" special featuring Park Jin-Young, Ahn So-Hi, Boom and Kwon Jin-A.
Kwon Jin-A is a singer-songwriter who debuted after gaining recognition on SBS's K-pop Star season 3 in 2014. She spent 10 years with Antenna, releasing emotionally rich hits such as "The End," "Something Went Wrong," and "I Was Lucky," and established herself as a "a vocalist you can trust" with a distinctive tone and sincere lyrics. Recently she declared musical independence by founding her own agency and is expanding her own musical world.
Kwon Jin-A recently said, "I thought seriously about my musical life.. I needed a turning point," calmly explaining why she left Antenna after 10 years. She then joked, "I hope JYP would buy the agency," sending the studio into laughter.
She describes how her music is often used in marriage counseling programs, saying, "Even when I sing bright songs, they all sound sad. Maybe it's the texture of my voice." She then reveals the bittersweet story that 80% of the songs requested for OSTs are sad songs and are used in the most dramatic scenes of dramas.
Kwon Jin-A said, "I feel like this is the second act of my musical life," and shared her future plans. With a sweet yet solid voice, she performed her self-created "breakup hit parade," instantly turning the studio into a concert hall. She also performed a cover of "Golden," which drew attention to the point of being called a "song-stealing expert," earning applause.
Kwon Jin-A also shared the story of being invited to Park Jin-Young's home. She recalled being moved, saying, "I was choked up by a single word of comfort from senior Park Jin-Young," and added, "The speaker was special," prompting laughter. She revealed the behind-the-scenes story of reuniting in a duet with him for the first time in about 10 years after hearing that he had thought of her as a partner to sing with.
The reason Park Jin-Young praised Kwon Jin-A as a "vocal that becomes dance" is also revealed. Kwon Jin-A will release a new single and title track, Happy Hour (After Work), at 6 p.m. on the 5th, the day Radio Star airs, and will debut the first performance on that broadcast. Park Jin-Young introduced her, saying, "At the end of today you can see Kwon Jin-A dance. Do not change the channel under any circumstances," and a great response poured in after the performance, raising expectations.
