Musical actor Kim Jun-young, who has faced controversy over visiting an adult entertainment venue, will step down from all productions he is appearing in.
HJ Culture, Kim Jun-young's agency and a production company, said on the 3rd, "We deeply apologize to audiences and stakeholders for the concern caused by a matter involving our artist," adding, "Actor Kim Jun-young will step down from all productions he is appearing in."
It added, "Because the actor was appearing in multiple productions, careful consultation with producers and stakeholders was necessary," and said, "We apologize for the time it took to finalize the decision and provide notice during this process."
Earlier, after visiting a restaurant, Kim Jun-young posted a receipt on his social media and then deleted the post. The receipt listed a woman's name and an amount, prompting suspicions of visiting an adult entertainment venue.
As the controversy grew, HJ Culture said, "We make clear that the actor committed no illegal act," and added, "If necessary, we will respond firmly, including with legal action, to illegal acts such as the malicious spread of false information and defamation."
However, internet users are criticizing, saying, "Don't just apologize—shouldn't you cover all performance cancellation fees?" and "I paid a hefty fee to cancel, and now that all the canceled tickets are out, are you ending it with a single apology statement? How do you view audiences?" There was also a reaction asking, "Nine hours ago you said there was 'no illegal act,' so what's behind the sudden change in stance?"
Kim Jun-young debuted in 2018 with the musical "Love in the Rain." Kim was currently appearing in the musical "Rachmaninoff" and the play "Amadeus," and was set to appear in the musicals "Eternity" and "John Doe." The production of the play "Amadeus" announced, "Kim Jun-young will step down due to personal reasons."
