Actor Kim Hee-jung drew deep empathy by portraying the realistic concerns of middle-aged women in Our Golden Days.
In episodes 25 and 26 of the KBS 2TV weekend drama Our Golden Days (director Kim Hyung-seok / writer So Hyun-kyung / produced by Studio Coming Soon, Studio Bom, Monster Union), which aired on the 1st (Sat) and 2nd (Sun), Kim Hee-jung finely expressed the complex psychology of a character who, as a wife and mother of a household and as someone's daughter, is conflicted by responsibility and duty, leaving a strong impression on viewers.
Playing Kim Da-jeong, the wife of Lee Sang-chul (played by Chun Ho-jin) and the mother of Lee Ji-hyeok (played by Jung Il-woo), Kim Hee-jung vividly portrayed a character who, preparing to re-enter the workforce, secretly took a job at a heated mattress sales store to support Sang-chul, who is juggling part-time work and studying for certification, and returned to social life. Kim Hee-jung added warmth to the drama by balanced, restrained acting that conveyed Da-jeong's realistic fatigue and warm devotion to her family.
Visiting her father Kim Jang-soo's (played by Yoon Joo-sang) house, which she had long neglected due to her harsh life, Da-jeong handled accumulated household chores in the empty house while waiting for Jang-soo. But faced with the reality of her father folding shopping bags for a part-time job alongside piles of antidepressant pill packets, Da-jeong, overwhelmed by remorse and sadness for not having cared for him, finally burst into tears. When her mother-in-law Jo Ok-rye (played by Ban Hyo-jung) suggested that Da-jeong live with Jang-soo, Da-jeong responded with a face that mixed surprise and gratitude. Kim Hee-jung moved viewers by conveying the perspectives of a mother, wife and daughter with deep and detailed emotional acting.
Especially in the scene where Da-jeong agonizes over sending her father to a younger brother living abroad, the realistic daughter's anguish was painfully felt. The potential sense of loss if the younger brother refuses, and worry over the burden her husband Sang-chul would have to bear intersected, revealing her human inner turmoil. Kim Hee-jung conveyed the character's emotions, wavering between love for her family and a sense of duty, in a realistic way that created empathy.
In this way, Kim Hee-jung truthfully captures the life of a middle-aged woman and gracefully guides the character's emotional shifts. With delicate facial expressions and natural timing, she leaves viewers with a quiet resonance and raises the drama's realistic temperature.<
