My Little Old Boy Lee Chang-hoon recounted his love story with his wife, who is 17 years younger, from their first meeting to what led to their marriage.
On the 2nd, the SBS variety show My Little Old Boy (hereinafter My Little Old Boy) aired a segment showing Lee Chang-hoon revealing his love story with his wife, who is 17 years younger.
Lee Chang-hoon, who married a woman 17 years his junior in 2008 and is now entering his 18th year of marriage, said, "I never imagined it. It feels like fate."
Lee Chang-hoon recalled his past relationships, saying, "Even when I dated, I thought if I bought a lot of gifts and spent a lot of money, I would get married. I even bought a car for an ex-girlfriend. But it still didn't lead to marriage. The last time I failed at love was when I was 39."
He continued, "After a year passed and I turned 40, there was a big difference between 39 and 40. At that moment I thought I imagined myself in my 50s. I felt like I was becoming unattractive," and, addressing the still-single Kim Seung-soo, he added, "I'm not saying you look unattractive," prompting laughter.
Speaking about how he met his wife, he opened up, "By chance, on Christmas Eve Shim Hyung-tak contacted me saying he was hanging out with acquaintances."
Lee Chang-hoon recalled their first meeting: "When I saw her, I unconsciously asked, 'May I ask for your phone number?' Of course I was drinking then. She said, 'What does it matter to you, senior?' and gave it to me. I didn't know her age. When I got her number, I was 41 and she was 24."
Surprised by the 17-year age gap, Lee Chang-hoon said, "When I went to the military she was 4 years old," and confessed, "I thought, 'This can't be,' so I asked her, 'Because I'm much older, could you ask your father if it's okay to meet?' Would you allow it?"
However, the wife's father actually liked him. Lee Chang-hoon explained, "I got a call. They said, 'Her father really likes you.' So instead of just saying he liked me, I asked about becoming a son-in-law, and they said, 'He seems to like you.' So I suggested having a meal with her mother."
Above all, Lee Chang-hoon said, "If I thought I could do well with this person, I introduced her to my mother," and confessed, "She was the fifth woman I introduced to my mother," which drew laughter.
His biological mother's reaction was different from previous relationships. He said, "We had a meal, and before, my mother would say, 'Chang-hoon, I'm sorry, but since this is between the two of you, please exclude me.' But my mother was smiling this time; when they first met they were talking together. When I took my mother home, she asked to have another meal," which surprised listeners.
After the second meal, his mother told Lee Chang-hoon, "She's the one. Marry her. You don't need anything. Carry her home," he said. Lee Chang-hoon, who received permission after three months of dating, said, "I told them to let me take care of everything. My mother said you will be happy. That was exactly right. We've been living happily until now."
