Park Yoo-chun, who was expelled from the entertainment industry after causing a social uproar over drug use, is returning to acting through a Japanese drama.
On the 1st, local Japanese media reported that Park Yoo-chun will appear in the drama "Yokushimakaru onna to aru otoko" (欲しがり女子とあり男子), which will premiere in December on Tokyo MX.
"Yokushimakaru onna to aru otoko" tells the story of a protagonist whose life is upended after being accused of sexual harassment at the company where they worked, who starts anew as the manager of a share house and regains hope through interactions with the residents. Junnosuke Taguchi has been cast as the protagonist Kanda Daichi and will return after 11 years.
Meanwhile, it was revealed that Park Yoo-chun will also appear in the drama. Park Yoo-chun made a special appearance in the Tokyo MX drama "Momo no Uta" that aired last September and had previously announced his appearance in the upcoming film "Sentient Game." With his confirmed role in "Yokushimakaru onna to aru otoko," he is resuming his activities as an actor in earnest.
In 2019, Park Yoo-chun was prosecuted on charges of using methamphetamine and was sentenced to 10 months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence. At the time, he strongly denied the drug use charges and announced his retirement from the entertainment industry, but he reversed that decision and attempted a comeback, drawing public backlash. However, continued controversies, including being listed as a major habitual tax delinquent, ultimately led him to suspend activities in Korea.
Afterward, Park Yoo-chun moved his activities overseas, including to Japan. He recently released the album "Metro Love" in Japan and held fan meetings, and through Tokyo MX he released the documentary "The Neverending Story (終わらない物語)," carrying out vigorous activities.
Notably, Junnosuke Taguchi, who plays the lead in "Yokushimakaru onna to aru otoko," also drew attention for having been convicted on drug charges. In 2019 Taguchi was arrested on charges of possessing and smoking marijuana and was sentenced to six months in prison with a two-year suspended sentence. He also declared a halt to entertainment activities to atone, but was later seen at a host bar, provoking public anger.
With Taguchi returning after 11 years and Park Yoo-chun, who also has a prior suspended sentence for drug use, joining the cast of "Yokushimakaru onna to aru otoko," a major ripple effect is expected.
Meanwhile, "Yokushimakaru onna to aru otoko" will air five episodes over three consecutive days from Dec. 22 to Dec. 24 on Tokyo MX.
