Actor Im Chae-moo expressed affection for his grandson, who looks just like him, while firmly stating he will not hand over Duriland.
On the 2nd episode broadcast on KBS2's 'The Boss Has Donkey Ears', Im Chae-moo's 11-year-old grandson Shim Ji-won was unexpectedly revealed, drawing attention.
That day, while Im Chae-moo was holding a Duriland management meeting with his daughter Im Go-woon, his grandson Shim Ji-won appeared and he asked, "Ji-won, from your perspective, what are the strengths and weaknesses?" In response, Shim Ji-won boldly said, "Can I tell you things that need fixing?", which drew admiration.
Kim Sook reacted, "You raised a clever grandson," and Shim Ji-won explained, "Isn't there a block on the second floor? It's really wobbly there. The glass part is fine when it's still, but the part that shakes is too shaky. If someone keeps throwing hard, stick-like things, couldn't that be a big problem?"
Upon hearing this, Im Go-woon said, "We should inspect it," but was flustered and added, "But why does he speak so well?" Im Chae-moo praised him, saying, "The employees don't go in, so they wouldn't discover it. Even if they go in, there's a difference between stepping on it and playing on it. When you play, it gets pushed. Then Ji-won discovered it well. We should pay Ji-won for this work," and complimented him.
Afterward, Shim Ji-won even put on an employee vest and led the way explaining the problem areas. Seeing the sagging floor, Im Chae-moo explained, "It's not absolutely dangerous; it's because there's play in the joints. You can put screws in." Watching Shim Ji-won meticulously check stability, Jun Hyun-moo said, "Does he check that thoroughly? He looks like an on-site inspection team," surprised, and Park Myung-soo also admired, "The kid is smart."
After that, Im Chae-moo showed a doting side that favored his grandson even more than his daughter. Park Myung-soo asked, "Do you prefer your daughter or your grandson?" and Im Chae-moo replied firmly, "I prefer my grandson." Kim Sook asked, "Even though you've worked with your daughter for 25 years?" but seeing Im Chae-moo shake his head, she said, "Your daughter must feel hurt," and appeared hurt herself.
Meanwhile, Shim Ji-won asked, "Grandfather, you work and learn—what would it be like if I became an actor?" and Im Chae-moo said, "We'd have to think about it," showing hesitation. Im Go-woon conveyed her concerns: "But not just anyone becomes an actor. When I was young, on the day before grandfather was filming, I've never seen him lie down to sleep. He doesn't even drink water. He can't let his face swell."
Im Chae-moo said, "If you can endure those things, be an actor," and Im Go-woon repeatedly asked, "Do you still want to do it? Can you do it? You'd have to work hard at exercise too—can you?" Im Chae-moo expressed confidence, "You can do that much," and Shim Ji-won vigorously nodded his head.
However, no matter how much he cherished his grandson, he took a firm stance regarding 'Duriland.' When asked, "How long will you operate Duriland?" Im Chae-moo joked, "Let's do it for 25 more years. Then how old will you be? You'll almost be in your 40s, right? Then grandpa won't have to work. Won't you give me allowance?" But when his grandson asked, "If it's hard to operate because of circumstances, will you hand it over?" he flatly replied, "Don't ask grandpa that kind of question. Grandpa does not hand things over."
He stated his conviction: "If you want to achieve money or anything, you must work for it with your own strength. What you inherit from others cannot be sustained. I will never hand it over. You should work hard and do what you want. What good is it if you take what grandpa has done?" Jun Hyun-moo asked, "I heard Im Chae-moo came on our program to say this," and Im Chae-moo said, "I am absolutely against handing things over. I will never hand it over. I won't give it. I'll leave it behind." Then Park Myung-soo said, "Give me some," and Im Chae-moo replied, "Take one of the front doors," making everyone burst into laughter.
