Actor Kim Min-jun recalled a time when he considered retirement.
On the March 3 broadcast of Channel A "Close Friend Tokyumentary - Table for Four," actor Park Joong-hoon invited his close friends Heo Jae and Kim Min-jun to his home.
That day Park Joong-hoon explained their connection: "Min-jun was the lead actor in the first film I directed, 'Top Star.' He played the role of a movie actor. He did well."
When asked why he cast him, he said, "The Min-jun I see, from his physique to his gaze to his face, at a glance he looks like a star. The film's main character is a movie star. So I thought this person would be perfect. At the time I asked him to do it, he said he wouldn't. It's not that he wouldn't do my film, it's that he said he wouldn't be an actor anymore," he shared as a casting anecdote.
At this, Park Kyung-rim was surprised and asked, "Were you going to quit?" and Kim Min-jun explained, "Isn't there a period like middle school angst? Something like when things don't go the way you want and you weigh your surroundings. Then I thought that in this state my true self would be greatly damaged. So I tried to protect myself."
He continued, "And when I read the script I wondered, 'Can I really do this?' You know yourself. I'm not star enough to do this, and my first concern was whether I might harm the work. Second, Park Joong-hoon sunbaenim is casting; I thought he could cast someone better than me, so at first I didn't feel sorry about refusing," he candidly said.
Then Park Joong-hoon said, "I chased him for a month and at the end I said this: 'I respect your opinion, but promise me. From today until you die, don't stop being an actor.' A few days later he said he would do it," he said. Hearing this, Heo Jae chided, "Why are you deciding someone else's life?" which drew laughter.
