Actor Park Jeong-cheol revealed the painful experience of being defrauded by a friend he had lived like a brother with for more than 20 years, shocking viewers.
On the 1st broadcast of MBN variety show "Sokpuli Show Dongchimi," cast members talked about the topic "Top 5 incidents caused by this image," and the segment aired.
That day, Park Jeong-cheol shared the painful story of being defrauded by a close friend he had treated like a brother.
According to Park Jeong-cheol, the friend who caused the damage was a close friend who worked at a suit company and was like a "sore fingertip" within their circle. While discussing ways to help the friend with acquaintances, a senior suggested, "I'll invest, so let's open a tailor shop. You help with promotion," and Park Jeong-cheol also took charge of promotion and joined the business. Because of the familiar image and trust, acquaintances' investments followed.
Park Jeong-cheol said the shop "was maintained well for more than 10 years," and "I never found out what this friend was doing behind the scenes." He said, "It was more shocking because it was fraud committed by a friend I had been with like a brother for more than 20 years, not someone I had known for just a day or two. Newlyweds lost in sweet dreams were victimized, and after recording fake sales on customers' cards they did not repay. The value-added tax alone exceeded 800 million won over two years."
Park Jeong-cheol recounted that "close associates visited the site and closed the shop to prevent further victims" and said he had to undergo a police investigation afterward, adding, "To avoid being mistaken as an accomplice, I met the victims directly and explained the situation," and estimated that there were more than 100 victims.
Park Jeong-cheol said he never learned the reason, adding, "When one pillar of my relationships collapsed, everything fell apart. Maintaining relationships only with long-standing ties was one of my prides, but because of this friend everything collapsed," and he confessed that he wandered, staying mostly at home for a year and a half afterward.<
