'The Wonder Coach' Kim Yeon-kyung criticized the players' lax attitudes and mentioned the shocking card of a "release system," instilling extreme vigilance.
On the 2nd, the MBC entertainment program The Wonder Coach aired, in which Kim Yeon-kyung's squad, 'Pilsseung Wonder Dogs,' faced the university league champion Gwangju Women's University volleyball team.
The Wonder Dogs secured victory 25-21 through the third set, recording a final 3-0 shutout win. Despite the perfect victory, coach Kim Yeon-kyung showed a cool reaction, saying "it's not easy," without appearing happy.
Standing before the players gathered in the locker room immediately after the win, Coach Kim said, "I think it's something to be congratulated. But I have something I want to ask. I'm disappointed when I look at today's performance. Is this a look of taking responsibility?" and offered harsh, bitter words before congratulations.
She sharply criticized the lax attitude of resting on the result of victory and demanded from the players the eagerness and sense of responsibility expected of professional athletes.
Kim Yeon-kyung's tough remarks went beyond simple reprimands. She confessed in an interview that she mentioned a "release system" as an "extreme remedy" to alert the team to their attitude.
Kim Yeon-kyung said, "Let's send them out. Their mindset at the beginning and now is completely different. Do they seem that way? Those who don't work hard and can't keep up can only be released. 'There's nothing that can give them different stimulation right now?' (With this thought) I told the producer to implement a release system," making everyone tense.
