Comedian the late Park Ji-sun left the world five years ago; today (2nd) is her fifth anniversary.
On Nov. 2, 2020, Park Ji-sun was found dead with her mother at her home in Mapo District, Seoul. There were no signs of forced entry, and a note suggestive of a suicide was found, so police respected the family's wishes and did not perform an autopsy.
The shock of that day remains vivid. Colleagues and fans were plunged into deep sorrow by the sudden news, and at the funeral service many people including Yoo Jae-seok, Kim Shin-young, Ahn Young-mi, Kim Young-chul, Park Sung-kwang, Cho Sae-ho, Park Bo-young and Seo-hyun saw the departed off in tears.
Park Ji-sun was loved for her bright and warm humor in many popular segments of Gag Concert. She brought cheerful energy to segments such as Bongsunga Academy, Solo Heaven Couple Hell and Teacher Kim Bong-tu, and after debuting as a KBS rookie comedian in 2007 she earned newcomer, excellence and top awards while remaining active. She was also very active as a radio host and variety show MC, always bringing laughter and kindness to those around her.
The longing for her still continues. Every year on her birthday colleagues and fans still remember Ji-sun. This year actor Lee Yoon-ji and singer Ali visited her columbarium and conveyed warm sentiments, saying "I'm coming to you like an autumn picnic." Lee Yoon-ji said, "Today is a picnic day," without losing her smile, and Ali wrote, "Today I missed your sharp little tooth more than usual."
Even as time passes, the word "longing" still follows Park Ji-sun's name. The laughter that shone on stage, the warm heart for people. Even five years later, she still lives on in many people's memories as a "bright person" and a "kind comedian."
I hope she is no longer in pain there and is at peace, always like that beloved smile.
