'Would You Merry Me' stars Choi Woo-shik and Jung So-min raised the tension when their fake-married relationship was discovered by former fiancé Seo Beom-jun.
On Sat., the Jan. 1 broadcast of SBS's Fri.-Sat. drama Would You Merry Me (directed by Song Hyun-wook, Hwang In-hyuk / written by Lee Ha-na / produced by Studio S, Samhwa Networks) episode 8 began the precarious and sweet romance between Kim Woo-joo (played by Choi Woo-shik) and Yoo Merry (played by Jung So-min), and former fiancé Kim Woo-joo (played by Seo Beom-jun), who learned of Woo-joo and Merry's fake-married relationship, visited Merry, heightening the tension. At the same time, episode 8 of Would You Merry Me surged to a peak rating of 10.9%, breaking into double digits and proving its unstoppable momentum. It continued its ratings rise with a 7.7% metropolitan rating, 7.4% nationwide, and a peak 2049 rating of 2.62%.
After confirming their feelings for each other, Woo-joo and Merry held hands tightly and walked through the reeds while talking about their childhoods. Woo-joo calmly revealed the story of being forced to go study in the United States after his parents' traffic accident, and said he had gone to Merry's house when he was in middle school. Merry relieved Woo-joo's misunderstanding by saying that her mother had not resented Woo-joo. Merry made memories with Woo-joo in the reed field filled with memories of her father. While looking at the stars Merry said, "My father became a star and seems to shine like a lighthouse whenever I feel lost," and Woo-joo replied, "Then I'll be the lighthouse. I'll stand right beside you, Merry," lifting Merry and confessing he would always be by her side, creating a flutter of excitement.
Woo-joo stayed overnight at Merry's family home, and the couple's playful antics on day 1 of their relationship made viewers' faces light up. Woo-joo embraced Merry, who had caught a cicada for him, saying "Merry, you're so reliable," and caused smiles by saying, "You're exactly my type."
The next day, Merry's mother Oh Young-sook (played by Yoon Bok-in) said Merry's registered divorce was because of her and asked Woo-joo to take good care of Merry. Woo-joo confidently replied, "Taking care of someone is my specialty," making Young-sook smile. Woo-joo, Merry, and Young-sook then visited Merry's father's memorial park to pay respects and received permission for Woo-joo and Merry's relationship.
Merry told Woo-joo, "I'm going to tell Mr. Baek Sang-moo everything," and said she would forfeit the prize. She knew she could be sued in the worst case, but the courageous decision came because of Woo-joo. Merry said, "I want to be proud in front of Woo-joo and the people around me," and gathered her courage. Woo-joo hugged Merry and said, "Whatever choice Merry makes, I'll be by your side. Thank you for making a difficult decision."
Meanwhile, Woo-joo's uncle by marriage Jang Han-gu (played by Kim Young-min) was hinted to be holding the reins of Myeongsoondang, increasing the tension. Meeting Min-jung (played by Yoon Ji-min), the accomplice in Myeongsoondang's fund embezzlement and his mistress, Han-gu smiled meaningfully and chillingly said, "Even if (Go Pil-nyeon) notices, it's already too late. There will be no way to stop it."
Sweet days continued for Woo-joo and Merry. Woo-joo triggered hearts as an unrestrained straight-forward man. During a meeting he texted Merry, "Why are you so pretty today?" and "Let's have lunch together after this, just the two of us," revealing his undeniable affection and raising the romance factor.
Merry, Myeongsoondang marketing team employees, and Merry Design employee Shin Song-hee (played by Jang Ha-eun) visited Woo-joo's family home at the invitation of Myeongsoondang chairman Pil-nyeon. During the conversation, when Pil-nyeon said, "I hate people who deceive others the most," Merry's expression turned pale and she was overwhelmed with sorrow, creating a sense of regret.
In the meantime, an unexpected crisis struck Woo-joo and Merry's romance, bringing the tension to a climax. The time bomb-like former fiancé Woo-joo finally discovered everything. When the former fiancé, who visited Merry's home, told Merry, who said she would report him as a stalker, "I think I'm the one who should report this. Was pretending to be a married couple fun for you?" he cornered her with cold eyes, causing hearts to sink. The smile of Woo-joo, who came to see Merry knowing nothing, the stunned Merry, and the cold-eyed former fiancé Woo-joo — the three of them made hearts pound and heightened curiosity about the next episode. In particular, the former fiancé already knows that Woo-joo is the fourth-generation head of Myeongsoondang. How Woo-joo and Merry will overcome this crisis and what will happen to their romance, which has met a bombshell of a crisis, will be closely watched.
After the broadcast, social media was filled with comments such as "Head of Team Kim Woo-joo is an office dating pro," "The reed field scenes are all great," "The ending is really well done. How am I supposed to wait until next week," "It sweeps with both sweetness and tension," "It's even better now that our Woo is dating. My cheeks won't stop smiling," "Woo-joo's displays of affection are so lovable," "Admiring Choi Woo-shik's suit fit," "Jung So-min and Choi Woo-shik's acting chemistry is so good that they bring the cute scenes to life.
