In KBS2's 'The Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears,' fourth-grade grandson Sim Ji-won, who claims to be Im Chae-mu's successor, sets out to purchase reptiles.
KBS 2TV's 'The Boss's Ears Are Donkey Ears' (directed by An Sang-eun, hereafter 'Sadanggwi') is a program of voluntary role reversal and self-reflection by Korea's bosses to create workplaces that make people want to work. In the last episode it recorded a peak viewership rating of 6.9%, maintaining the top spot in its time slot for 177 consecutive weeks (Nielsen Korea).
Today's (2nd) broadcast, episode 329 of 'Sadanggwi,' reveals three generations united to save the loss-making 'Duriland': chairman Im Chae-mu of 'Duriland,' his daughter and head of operations planning Im Go-un, and fourth-grade grandson Sim Ji-won.
Among them, fourth-grade grandson Sim Ji-won, who harbors ambitions to inherit 'Duriland,' visits an outsider who works as a rapper and an amphibian and reptile ambassador for a children's experience program. Mesmerized by the many rare reptiles, Ji-won, despite a budget of 5 million won to 10 million won, sets his sights on a turtle worth about 900 million won, leaving his grandfather Im Chae-mu embarrassed.
After the 'green basilisk' that runs on water, a 2 million won lizard called a 'tegu' appears, and Ji-won immediately falls for it, saying, "It's really cool," but Im Chae-mu shows concern over the price, saying, "These are more expensive than my value." Jun Hyun-moo then laments, "The grandson looks disappointed."
But Ji-won was not one to give up. What captivated him was none other than the Aldabra giant tortoise. After feeding it and even cleaning its shell himself, Ji-won becomes completely enthralled. He says, "I've never seen such a big turtle in my life," in rapture. The outsider then says, "The salary is 3 million won a month," and then, "One is 150 million won. All together it's 900 million won." Ji-won, fitting for a successor, bluntly asks, "Grandfather, please buy all of these for me." Im Chae-mu, momentarily embarrassed by his grandson's request, jokes, "I should go to Africa," and Ji-won replies, "I will go to Africa," showing a matching fierce love for 'Duriland' between that grandfather and grandson. Whether Ji-won's bold investment as a powerful successor appearing in 'Duriland' can turn 'Duriland' to profit is drawing attention to the 'Sadanggwi' broadcast.
