Actor Dokgo Young-jae recalled sweet memories as he revealed an intense love story with his wife, who is 16 years his junior.
Dokgo Young-jae said on MBN 'Sokpulisho Dongchimi,' which aired on the afternoon of the 1st, "When I first met my wife, I didn't feel anything special." He said, "I first met my wife as a coordinator for another actor during a film production, and because of the large age difference, at first I just thought she was a young friend."
After the film ended, Dokgo Young-jae recalled, "I happened to meet her again at a cafe. I happened to be doing an interview with a reporter I knew. I lived in Bangbae-dong and she lived in Gwacheon, and the reporter said it was on his way and asked to drop her off." He added, "We talked in the car, the conversation flowed well and it was enjoyable. I intended to drop her off at Sadang intersection but ended up going to the front of her house in Gwacheon. Even when we arrived at her house, she didn't get out. We stayed in the car together for about three hours from 9 p.m.," recalling their sweet first meeting.
Dokgo Young-jae, who said he gradually built up feelings afterward, recalled, "One day after three months had passed, I opened the door and my current wife and her mother-in-law were standing there. The mother-in-law said she wouldn't let her marry anyone other than Young-jae oppa, and told her to just live here, then left leaving my wife behind. At the time my wife was 21 and I was 38. I was greatly embarrassed by the large age gap."
Having raised his children alone for 12 years after his divorce, Dokgo Young-jae initially discouraged her, but she insisted, "I refused to even take a seat and insisted on marrying Dokgo Young-jae." He said, "At the time I couldn't even pay the electricity bill and the meter had been removed, so I was living by candlelight. My wife always came to the house to feed the children, send them to school and take care of them."
After being cast in the film White War and receiving a contract payment of 13 million won, Dokgo Young-jae said he went to retrieve the meter and turned the power back on. He added, "When the lights came on, my wife took out a 1 million won check and cried, saying, 'I wanted to give this, but I didn't because I thought it would hurt your pride.'" He said, "I decided that if she was a woman who would protect even my pride in such hard times, it would be good to marry her." He also expressed affection, saying, "Until now my wife has led me."
