Super Junior Kim Hee-cheul revealed that he lost height as a aftereffect of a traffic accident.
On the 31st of last month, episode 287 of KBS Joy's "20th Century Hit-Track" revisited hit songs by singers who overcame pain under the theme "singing again! Hit tracks by singers who overcame hardship."
On that broadcast, Kim Hee-cheul confessed, "My whole side collapsed and I lost height. I used to be about 185cm," while hearing that singer Kim Kyung-ho pushed through a concert in Japan despite avascular necrosis of the femoral head. Kim Hee-cheul's current height is reported to be 176cm.
Kim Hee-cheul was involved in a traffic accident in 2006 while returning to Seoul after paying respects at the funeral of Super Junior member Donghae's father. At the time he suffered serious injuries from his left ankle up to his femur and pelvic bone, underwent major surgery to insert seven metal rods in his leg, and was later classified as having a level 4 physical disability.
He previously told SBS's My Little Old Boy, "I hid the fact that I received a disability rating because I was afraid fans would be sad," adding, "I went to get the disability sticker and deliberately didn't accept it thinking, 'I should live more actively.' I didn't want to admit that my body was hurting. I thought I could overcome it."
