In "Running Man," it was revealed belatedly that Ji Ye-eun's double chin was not fat but a thyroid condition.
On the Feb. 2 broadcast of SBS variety show "Running Man," Ji Ye-eun returned in tears.
That day Ji Ye-eun announced her return. Ji Ye-eun returned after about three weeks. Appearing with a noticeably hoarse voice, Ji Ye-eun suddenly shed tears when she faced her unni and oppa. "Coming back after three weeks makes me emotional," she said with her trademark "bbueng" signature expression and actually choked up, drawing attention.
In particular, after resting three weeks and appearing healthy, Ji Ye-eun was told, "Your health is here, we missed you, say hello." But Ji Ye-eun returned with an even raspier voice. She had suspended activities because of hypothyroidism. Kim Jong-kook said, "We already apologized to Ye-eun. Ye-eun's double chin is due to her thyroid, not fat," noting her sharper jawline, "Anyway, it's a relief that her health has recovered."
Meanwhile, she returned with an even stronger appetite, raising expectations for Ji Ye-eun's performance. The production team commemorated Ji Ye-eun's return. "We decided to prepare what Ji Ye-eun wants to eat," saying, "No matter what she wants, the members must obtain it, and the production will cover the expense in full".
Yoo Jae-suk said, "Ji Ye-eun really eats a lot," expressing concern, and as expected, Ji Ye-eun listed increasingly haphazard menu items ranging from sashimi and ox bone soup to yangjangpi. She even said, "What I really want to eat now is Peking duck," and "I want dessert too: tiramisu, cafe latte, gelato," prompting Yoo Jae-suk to joke, "When you're saying good things, narrow it down to three," and Ji Ye-eun agreed, "Then I'll narrow it to ox bone soup, sashimi, and yangjangpi," even including dessert latte in the compromise.
They continued shopping for what Ji Ye-eun wanted to eat. When she asked, "Doesn't it feel good that everyone welcomes you?" Ji Ye-eun said, "I got emotional; my hormones have been unbalanced lately," and choked up. Everyone said, "Congratulations on your return, Ji Ye-eun," and she was moved by the welcome dinner, saying, "Just eat well."
Ji Ye-eun said, "Actually, after getting sick once, my tastes changed and I tend to eat restorative food," adding, "The quantity has decreased a lot; my digestive system got worse." But the members laughed at her, saying, "Your voice changed because you ate, but you still feast; the food-lover hasn't gone anywhere," ultimately amused by Ji Ye-eun's revived appetite.
