Actor Jang Hye-jin revealed behind-the-scenes details about gaining 20kg during the filming of the movie Parasite.
On the Nov. 1 broadcast of MBC entertainment show Omniscient Interfering View, singer Roy Kim and actor Jang Hye-jin appeared as guests.
That day, Jang Hye-jin was shown cleaning her home early in the morning and eating breakfast of a healthy homemade meal. Seeing this, the panelists said "You're so slim now" and mentioned the change in her physique from the time of the movie Parasite, and asked, "Did you purposely gain weight back then?"
Jang Hye-jin recalled with a laugh, "I ate six meals a day to gain weight. Director Bong Joon-ho said, 'I wish you had gained a little more weight,' so I did."
She added, "I was originally 57kg, but I gained 20kg. Losing it was actually quick. But for my next project they said, 'We didn't expect you to be this slim,' so I gained weight again."
Jang Hye-jin earned praise for perfectly portraying the role of Chung-sook in Parasite. Her meticulous weight control and immersion in the character were credited with enhancing the film's realism.<
