Actor Ok Taecyeon will be the second member of the group 2PM to join the ranks of married men. He announced he will marry his non-celebrity girlfriend, with whom he has long nurtured a relationship, next spring. He informed fans of the wedding in a handwritten letter and is receiving many congratulations.
Ok Taecyeon posted a long handwritten letter on his social media on the 1st and announced the marriage, saying, "I promised to spend my life with someone who has trusted me for a long time. We will be a dependable presence for each other and will walk through the rest of our lives together."
Ok Taecyeon said, "I sincerely thank everyone who has supported me with a steady heart until I am who I am today. I cannot put into words how much your love and support have meant to me," and added, "I will continue to do my best to repay the love and trust you have shown me as a 2PM member, as an actor, and as Taekyeon."
Ok Taecyeon's agency 51K also said in a press release that day, "Ok Taecyeon has promised to share his life with someone he has been dating for a long time. The wedding will be held privately in a location in Seoul next spring with only family members from both sides, relatives and close acquaintances in attendance."
They continued, "As the spouse is a non-celebrity, we ask for your understanding that details will be kept private," and added, "After the wedding, Ok Taecyeon plans to greet you with good projects and a variety of activities."
With this, Ok Taecyeon becomes the second member of 2PM to join the ranks of married men, following Hwang Chan-sung, who married in 2021. Earlier, Hwang Chan-sung announced his marriage to a non-celebrity eight years his senior in December 2021, announced a premarital pregnancy, and welcomed his first daughter.
Ok Taecyeon acknowledged his relationship in June 2020 with a non-celebrity four years his junior and maintained a public relationship for five years. At the time it was his first public relationship in 12 years since debut and drew many congratulations, and reports of dates spotted occasionally attracted attention.
In particular, last February a photo taken in Paris, France, of him with his girlfriend circulated on online communities, sparking speculation the wedding was imminent. The photo appeared to show Ok Taecyeon kneeling in the middle of Paris and offering a ring to his girlfriend. The photo was taken in April of last year in Paris by a photographer and was reposted by a Chinese fan, drawing attention.
Although the photo's circulation led to speculation that a wedding was imminent, at the time a representative for Ok Taecyeon explained, "The photo was taken to celebrate the girlfriend's birthday. There were no concrete wedding plans yet," and said it was not a proposal. The photographer who released the photo without prior discussion also apologized.
After once denying wedding rumors, Ok Taecyeon ultimately promised marriage to his long-term partner and is about to begin the second chapter of his life.
