Actor Kwon Sang Woo revealed that he underwent liver surgery.
On the 1st, the YouTube channel Mrs. New Jersey Son Tae Young (abbreviated New Jersey) uploaded a video titled "Son Tae Young, in her fifth year in the United States, eats this when she misses Korea (must try in autumn)." The video showed actor Son Tae Young and Kwon Sang Woo greeting autumn with acquaintances in the United States.
That day Son Tae Young mentioned that she usually enjoys watching mukbangs by YouTuber Tzuyang and expressed surprise. Even Kwon Sang Woo joked, "If I pass by and see Tzuyang, I think I'll act like I know her." In response, Son Tae Young said, "Tzuyang reportedly has a large stomach. It's bigger than most men's," expressing admiration for Tzuyang's appetite.
In response, Kwon Sang Woo said, "My liver is big. That's why I stand up to Son Tae Young," which drew laughs. He also added, "Isn't that why they didn't remove my liver?" adding to the surprise.
In fact, he underwent surgery to remove a hepatic hemangioma. He had a resection that removed about the size of a palm from his liver. Fortunately, because his liver was larger than that of an average adult, removing only 30% left it at a normal person's liver size.
Kwon Sang Woo continued, "But because my liver was so large, I was told it grew back well. The liver normally regenerates after resection. For most people it takes about two months to grow back, but for me it only took one month to fully regrow," he said proudly.
Kwon Sang Woo and Son Tae Young married in 2008 and have one son and one daughter. They live shuttling between the United States and Korea for their children's studies.
