The mini fourth album by the group TWS (TWS) shot to No. 1 on the Oricon album chart.
On Oct. 30, the latest chart released Oct. 30 by Japan's Oricon showed that TWS (Shin-yu, Do-hun, Young-jae, Han-jin, Ji-hoon, Kyung-min)'s mini fourth album play hard sold 124,547 copies upon release and topped the daily album ranking. The album was officially released in Japan on Oct. 30.
The explosive rise is clearly striking. On its first day of release in Japan, play hard far surpassed the first-week cumulative sales in Japan of the mini third album TRY WITH US (about 87,000 copies). This figure is even higher than the first-day sales of the local debut single Nice to see you again (original title はじめまして/はじめまして) in July (119,617 copies), proving TWS's growing local popularity day by day.
Play hard is also performing well domestically. The album sold nearly 640,000 copies in its first week, breaking the previous first-week sales record (album sales in the week immediately after release), and achieved a double crown by ranking No. 1 in both Circle Chart's weekly album and retail album categories.
In particular, the title track OVERDRIVE's "acting cute challenge" is receiving significant attention. This challenge, consisting of simple movements that stimulate cuteness to match the "Umm" lyric, has been called an "idol essential challenge" and rapidly spread on short-form platforms. Several singers and actors have followed the choreography at fan signings and other events, drawing daily attention.
Bolstered by this warm response, the digital track also gained momentum. OVERDRIVE earlier hit No. 1 on Instagram's Reels rising audio chart, and after entering Melon's daily chart on Sept. 27 at its first appearance, it rose to No. 96 on Sept. 28, No. 92 on Sept. 29 and No. 91 on Sept. 30.
Meanwhile, TWS will continue their OVERDRIVE stage on MBC's Show! Music Core today (the 1st). On the broadcast, Do-hun, the regular MC, will be joined by Young-jae as a special MC.
