Comedian Park Mi-seon, who is battling breast cancer, mourned the death of lawyer Baek Seong-mun, who died while fighting cancer.
YTN announcer Kim Seon-young, the wife of the late lawyer Baek Seong-mun, posted a long message on her husband's SNS account on the 1st, saying, "My husband, Baek Seong-mun, who approached me with a kind, gentle smile, has passed away."
She recalled, "My husband was diagnosed last summer with a rare cancer called paranasal sinus cancer and underwent surgery, chemotherapy and radiation therapy, fighting the disease fiercely for about a year, but in the end he could not stop the malignant tumor from spreading terribly. Even during the difficult battle, he never frowned and was a gentle, kind person; even in pain when he could not swallow a sip of water, he was a loving husband who made sure his wife had meals."
Kim Seon-young said, "He burned with the will to return to broadcasting until the end, and to protect his wife he endured everything, even going blind in one eye during chemotherapy and walking barefoot, giving his all," and added, "My husband, who endured so well, went to heaven with a peaceful expression as if sleeping. He always jokingly called me 'Mrs. Kim.' Before he passed away I whispered in his ear, 'Mrs. Kim will endure and be fine, so don't worry—go now to a place without pain.'"
Kim Seon-young added, "My husband left these words in June: 'Thank you for sharing the most brilliant time of my life with me.' As I send him off… I pray sincerely. May he have even more brilliant times in heaven and always be smiling with that expression."
Colleagues also offered their final respects to announcer Kim Seon-young, who lost her husband. Broadcaster and former announcer Han Seok-jun mourned the deceased, leaving a message saying, "Goodbye, brother. Many times come to mind. Even long-ago times."
Actress Hwang Bo-ra expressed complicated feelings, saying, "I couldn't say anything at the sight of my sister's emaciated appearance. I wrote a last letter to my brother that he couldn't read. Two months ago he asked me to come visit his home, and I regret not going. I will pray for you, sister. And I will be with you."
Especially notable was comedian Park Mi-seon, who had halted activities earlier this year after being diagnosed with early-stage breast cancer; she left a comment saying, "My deepest condolences," joining in the mourning.
The late lawyer Baek Seong-mun became known through several broadcasts such as TV Law Firm (TV로펌 법대법), Case File 24 and Incident Chief, and passed away at 2:08 a.m. on the 31st of last month. The wake was set up at Asan Medical Center funeral hall, and announcer Kim Seon-young is receiving mourners as the chief mourner.
