Singer Jung Seung-hwan imbued The Seasons with emotion and delivered the essence of ballad.
Jung Seung-hwan appeared on KBS2 The Seasons-10CM's Ssedam Ssedam, which aired on Oct. 31, and drew strong interest by sharing production anecdotes related to his full-length album Love Called and debuting live performances of the double title tracks for the first time.
That day Jung Seung-hwan chose "Happiness Is Hard," one of the double title tracks, as the opening song, adding his own captivating tone to a retro mood city-pop sensibility and instantly drawing the audience into the song."Happiness Is Hard" is a song that captures the narrator's empty heart after realizing only after a breakup that the days spent with the other person were happiness. Jung Seung-hwan painted a three-dimensional panorama of emotions with delicate control of tempo and left a deep aftertaste.
During the subsequent talk segment, Jung Seung-hwan's witty charm shone. Jung Seung-hwan said, "I put my life on the line for this album. It's my first full-length album in a long time and a new chapter for me," and added, "I want to be a musician who can motivate not only listeners but also people who do the same work. I hope this album becomes the music you need. If that happens, I think all the worries I had while making this album will be rewarded."
Appearing on music shows for the first time in about nine years, Jung Seung-hwan joked that when 10cm advised him that "you should prepare an ending pose," he replied, "It's my specialty, so I think I can do it well on the spur of the moment without preparing separately. These days I'm even practicing winks," drawing laughter. Especially, Jung Seung-hwan, who has delighted audiences with various cover stages each time he appears on The Seasons, surprised the audience by performing 10cm's "May It Reach You" in an impression version, delivering cheerful energy to the crowd.
Finally, Jung Seung-hwan sang "Bangs," one of the double title tracks. The song, which contains a wish for the happiness of a departed relationship, featured Jung Seung-hwan's sweet voice that caressed listeners' ears as if stroking bangs. As the song swelled, the deepening grandeur of the orchestra and band sound combined to showcase the true value of the "emotional balladeer" Jung Seung-hwan, delivering a deep resonance like rolling waves.
In addition, Jung Seung-hwan formed "Beetlebeetles" with 10cm, Roy Kim and Choi Jung-hoon and staged a joint performance like none other. They showed outstanding vocal skills once again by breathing together on songs that deeply convey ballad sensibility, including Brown Eyed Soul's "Did I Really Love," 2AM's "Even If I Die I Can't Let You Go," and Noel's "Proposal."
Meanwhile, Jung Seung-hwan released his full-length album Love Called on Oct. 30. Love Called is Jung Seung-hwan's first full-length album in about seven years and contains 10 tracks that capture love stories that exist in various forms in every moment of life. Jung Seung-hwan spotlights "love" that existed for us with heart, warmth and seasons, offering the "essence of love" that will linger in listeners' hearts like a long aftersound. Heading into full-fledged comeback activities, Jung Seung-hwan will appear on MBC Show! Music Core, which airs this afternoon (the 1st).
