Actor and writer Cha In-pyo appeared as a judge on Just Makeup.
On the 31st, the Coupang Play original variety show Just Makeup episode 9 released a mission titled "novel" as the final TOP3 deciding challenge. Contestants had to portray the mermaid description from Cha In-pyo's book "Mermaid Hunting" through makeup.
Accordingly, Cha In-pyo appeared as a judge for this makeup mission and received cheers from the cast. Lee Hyori noted, "The author's work 'Mermaid Hunting' has been well received in Korean literary circles and is also gaining attention overseas."
Cha In-pyo explained, "At Istanbul University in Türkiye, third- and fourth-year Korean literature students use it as a textbook, and it is also being translated into Chinese."
Among them, as participants expressed mermaids through makeup, Cha In-pyo said, "Mother mermaids in my novel live only in the abyss, the deep sea. Because there is no light, the mermaids I imagine resemble East Asian painting in terms of imagery, and monochrome, or a translucence like certain jellyfish."
Seeing the images of mermaids that the cast members drew themselves, Cha In-pyo said, "Seeing what I expressed in words directly embodied as images by the makeup artists makes my heart flutter. It feels like seeing a mermaid from a fairy tale."
Meanwhile, Cha In-pyo won the Hwang Sun-won Literary Award in August for his 2022 novel Mermaid Hunting.
