Actress Ok Jayeon revealed her own study secrets.
On the 30th, a video titled "Valedictorian! Studying was the easiest (feat. Seoul National University)" was posted on the YouTube channel "PDC by PDC."
That day Ok Jayeon said she began doing theater as soon as she graduated from university and confessed, "Looking back now, I should have gone to school. Isn't learning as an actor really fun? At that age, learning (acting) might not have been fun, but now I attend an acting academy. It's so much fun."
When PDC expressed surprise, Ok Jayeon modestly said, "Rather than an academy, I receive acting coaching. 'Ah, acting class is so fun' — if I had taken this (early), wouldn't I have grown much faster? I thought," and added that she studies because she still feels lacking.
Then PDC asked, "You must have heard you were pretty a lot when you were in school." Ok Jayeon replied, "I was often told I looked bright," and said, "People said I was attractive in university, but in middle and high school I was really often told I looked smart."
Especially, PDC asked bluntly, "You were really good at studying, right?" To that, Ok Jayeon said, "I studied... well," and proudly added, "I never lost the top spot in my school."
She continued, "I hardly attended academies, and I only took one semester of advanced study in English and math. Other than that, I really studied on my own," revealing the secret to getting into Seoul National University.
Ok Jayeon also said, "Was it around second year of middle school? Studying became fun. Making a schedule became fun," and explained, "I didn't know how to prepare for exams, but making a study schedule and clearing those steps was so fun."
Listening quietly, PDC asked, "When someone as good at studying as you decided to do theater, didn't your parents oppose it?"
Ok Jayeon explained, "My father didn't oppose it at all. As a teacher he had seen many students and thought that once you decide and take responsibility, that's fine. Maybe because he had seen many students. If it were only my child he might have been more greedy, but I think my father had seen students who became unhappy under authoritarian parents. Maybe not, though."
She added, "I don't think he believed studying was everything. Above all, he seems to be someone who thinks it's important for a child to find their own path," expressing her gratitude.
By contrast, her mother was very worried. Ok Jayeon laughed and said, "She said, 'How can you stop someone who says they want to try something? Let them try. They'll probably quit.' At first she waited, but when it lasted longer than she expected she grew anxious and worried. Around when I was 30 she suggested, if broadcasting goes well, why not become a producer?"
