First-generation girl group S.E.S. members Bada and Eugene said there are no immediate plans for full-group activities but added they will wait until member Shooga feels comfortable, rekindling fans' hopes for a reunion.
On Oct. 21, Channel A variety show "Jelchin Tokyumentary – Table for Four," MC Park Kyung-rim cautiously asked, "S.E.S. is soon celebrating its 30th anniversary. Do you have any special plans for fans?" Bada replied, "There aren't any concrete plans right now. For now, we're waiting until Shooga feels comfortable. We're waiting for everything to flow naturally."
Eugene also expressed the same sentiment, saying, "Maybe there will be a natural time for a reunion."
Meanwhile, Shooga has recently drawn attention by mentioning her current status and an album for the first time. Shoo (Yoo Soo-young) looked back on a scene while volunteering at a workplace for disabled workers called "Kkotbat" on her personal social media. After handing out 100 ice creams and receiving fan messages, she said, "I went to volunteer, but the energy I received from those friends was greater…volunteering is ultimately a time to heal myself."
Shoo said those she was volunteering with asked, "Sister, please release another album!" and "Why don't you appear on TV these days?" She revealed, "They were singing along when I played the songs I sang. That moment moved me."
Against this backdrop, after Bada and Eugene's comment that they would "wait for Shooga," fans reacted with hope. Since Shoo herself first gave fans hope for an album release, expectations about a possible reunion have newly flared.
Online communities show reactions such as: "Is the time finally coming… I want to hear S.E.S. as a full group," "Just hearing the word 'waiting' makes me choke up…90s nostalgia is exploding," and "I hope the reunion is a natural progression, not an 'event.'"
How much Shoo organizes her own activities and emotional state appears to be the key variable for a reunion. It is also important whether there is room to plan group activities during the two years leading up to the 30th anniversary. Attention is again focused on when concrete schedules such as fan meetings, albums and concerts will be announced.
There is notable attention over whether 1990s leading girl group S.E.S. will appear before fans again in the form of a "full group."
