Actor Lee Si-gang delivered an overwhelming performance on the small screen with a chilling villain role in the drama "First Lady."
In MBN's Wednesday-Thursday miniseries "First Lady" (written by Kim Hyung-wan, directed by Lee Ho-hyun), in episodes 9–12 (final episode), Lee Si-gang perfectly embodied a ruthless character who did not hesitate to resort to threats and murder for his own ambition.
In the drama, Yang Hun (played by Lee Si-gang) becomes enraged over the passage of a special law for workers and mercilessly assaults his secretary, pressures Cha Soo-yeon (played by Yoo-jin), who seeks to verify the parentage of Lee Hwa-jin (played by Han Soo-a), who claims to be Hyun-chul's (played by Ji Hyun-woo) biological daughter, and instead devises a plan to use the situation to quell public criticism of the special investigation committee's personnel composition.
He also continued extreme and malicious actions, bribing lawmakers with slush money and even planning to nullify Min-chul's election. Not stopping there, he framed Soo-yeon, who tried to verify parentage despite Yang Hun's pressure, as the perpetrator of the hit-and-run involving Um Soon-jung (played by Jo Young-ji), and carried out meticulous schemes to eliminate Soo-yeon's close aides, Seong Hyun-suk (played by Kim Gwak-kyung-hee) and Kang Seon-ho (played by Kang Seung-ho), by staging their deaths as traffic accidents.
After the special investigation committee chairperson was replaced, Yang Hun, who was hiding evidence in preparation for a search and seizure, discovered that he was behind Hyun-suk's and Seon-ho's traffic accidents and revealed a threatening side by, among other things, intimidating Soo-yeon when she chased after him. But when he learned of a recorder proving Soo-yeon's involvement in a past fire incident, Lee Si-gang realistically portrayed Yang Hun's meanness as he immediately backed down, heightening the drama's immersion.
In particular, in the scene where he abducts Soo-yeon and her daughter Hyun Ji-yu (played by Park Seo-kyung) and Hwa-jin and attempts to eliminate the three simultaneously using poison gas, he delicately expressed the obsessive and cruel psychology of the villain, delivering a chilling tension to viewers. Until the plan collapsed at the end and he was caught by the police, Lee Si-gang perfectly and impactfully embodied Yang Hun's ruthlessness and human meanness in detail.
In this way, Lee Si-gang vividly portrayed the meticulous and vicious psychology of the villain, maximizing the drama's tension. In each scene, through just his eyes and tone of voice, his acting conveyed Yang Hun's threatening presence, leaving a strong impression on viewers. Expectations are growing for the various acting transformations and moves Lee Si-gang will show going forward.
