Pop star Mariah Carey publicly cheered on HYBE and Geffen Records' global girl group KATSEYE.
KATSEYE on the 29th (Korea time) released a video titled "All I Want for Halloween is…Gabriela" on the global superfans platform Weverse and on YouTube.
In the video, made for Halloween (Oct. 31) and featuring comedian and actor Bowen Yang, the six KATSEYE members each appeared in outfits from Mariah Carey music videos, recreating iconic scenes and poses any music fan would recognize.
Daniela appeared on rollerblades recalling Mariah Carey during the Fantasy era, and Lara captivated viewers by recreating the sexy dress and sensual performance from Obsessed.
Sofia expressed the sweet yet addictive love of Honey in pure white style, and Manon, wearing a wedding dress, paid homage to We Belong Together, a song about longing for an ex.
Yoonchae reversed the mood with a festive energy in the red outfit associated with All I Want for Christmas Is You, and Megan parodied Mariah Carey's other persona Bianca from Heartbreaker, radiating playful energy.
Finally, KATSEYE performed their hit Gabriela wearing rainbow-inspired outfits drawn from Mariah Carey's album Rainbow. The Halloween performance highlighted the six members' outstanding emotional expression and wit.
But it did not end there. At the end of the video, Mariah Carey appeared on camera herself. After watching their performance, she said, "So lovely. My daughter also likes KATSEYE," expressing special affection for the group.
KATSEYE's "All I Want for Halloween is…Gabriela," which combines respect for a senior pop star with a humorous homage, has drawn strong response, surpassing 1 million YouTube views with Mariah Carey's surprise appearance.
Mariah Carey is a cross-generational "pop icon." Her song All I Want for Christmas Is You, released more than 30 years ago, still reenters the top of major charts each year as the year-end season approaches and is called a "holiday classic."
Mariah Carey's symbolic show Christmastime in Las Vegas, which demonstrates her enduring stature and popularity, will also be held from Nov. 28 to Dec. 13. Her support for KATSEYE ahead of that drew even more interest among global music fans.
KATSEYE is a group realizing chairman Bang Si-hyuk's vision of 'globalizing the K-pop production system.' After going through HYBE America's structured T&D (training & development) system, they debuted in the U.S. in June last year and recently hit the U.S. Billboard main charts with hits such as Gabriela and Gnarly.
