KBS2 'The Return of SUPERMAN' star Shim Hyeong-tak's son Haru, 254 days old, delivered wall-to-wall big smiles to living rooms with an astonishing growth spurt.
On the 29th (Wed), episode 595 of KBS2 2TV The Return of SUPERMAN (directed by Kim Young-min, hereafter "The Return of SUPERMAN") titled "A super challenge that helps you grow!" featured Superman Jang Dong-min and Shim Hyeong-tak.
In this episode, Haru at 254 days old, who had grown by leaps and bounds, was revealed. While Shim Hyeong-tak started making snacks for Haru, Haru surprised everyone by succeeding at sitting up on his own. While crawling furiously on his own, Haru pushed the floor with both arms, then pulled his feet strongly forward and landed squarely on his bottom, succeeding at sitting up on his own.
Seeing Haru sitting upright, Shim Hyeong-tak exclaimed, "He looks dignified," and expressed a wish that after sitting on his own he would also master standing up. As if reading his father's wish, Haru grabbed a toy on the sofa, used the sofa for support and rose to his feet by standing on his tiptoes, drawing attention. Shim Hyeong-tak said, "Without anyone's help, Haru moved his legs and stood up by himself," expressing his joy with his whole body, and added, "In eight months our Haru has grown so much," moved to tears.
Shim Hyeong-tak was amazed to see Haru stand alone for 0.4 seconds without the sofa's help, saying, "He stood alone for an incredible amount of time." Although it was a brief moment, Shim Hyeong-tak said, "To my eyes it felt like 30 seconds," and could not hide his heartfelt pride in Haru's growth.
Father Shim Hyeong-tak made banana powdered milk bread and cheese balls himself as snacks for Haru. Especially, Haru's eyes widened at the taste of his first-ever cheese ball, and he even learned to use his finger strength to grab cheese balls, which made him all the more adorable.
Shim Hyeong-tak prepared tactile play to awaken Haru's senses after he began sitting up and using his fingers. The first tactile play material, popped rice, awakened Haru's instinct to devour food. When a rain of popped rice fell, Haru started reaching with his mouth rather than his hands, bringing laughter. When Shim Hyeong-tak presented tofu and noodles as tactile play materials, Haru flaunted the finger strength he had developed with cheese balls. Haru smashed tofu with his hands and brought it to his mouth, then gripped thin noodles tightly and waved them, proudly showing strong finger strength.
As Haru's muscle power grew, his expressiveness also developed, amplifying his cuteness. When his father Shim Hyeong-tak briefly paused feeding him baby food, Haru let out urgent babbling, "Uuung," asking for more. Haru's plaintive expressions and gestures toward his baby food made viewers' cheeks lift in a smile.
To mark The Return of SUPERMAN's 12th anniversary, five families — Kim Jun-ho, Eun-woo and Jeong-woo; Jang Dong-min, Ji-woo and Si-woo; Woo Hye-rim, Si-woo and Si-an; Shim Hyeong-tak and Haru; and Kim Yoon-ji and Ella — will participate in the "2025 Seoul stroller run" on Nov. 1 at the invitation of the Seoul Metropolitan Government. Ahead of that, Jang Dong-min began running practice for first place with his daughter Ji-woo and son Si-woo. In particular, Jang Dong-min declared that he would have the children push the strollers themselves and run, drawing attention to whether Ji-woo and Si-woo could do it.
When Ji-woo heard that Eun-woo, whom she met last winter, would also compete, she declared, "Eun-woo oppa, I'm going to beat you~," stoking her desire to finish first. To help Ji-woo win, her father Jang Dong-min prepared a 2 km course that included various variables that could occur in an actual stroller run. As Ji-woo ran pushing the stroller and encountered an uphill, she first worried about her younger brother Si-woo. After checking on Si-woo with, "Jang Si-woo! Can you climb the hill?" she shouted, "I can do it," and energetically climbed the hill, making viewers smile. Then Ji-woo waved to a snake doll her father had placed as a surprise obstacle, saying, "Snake~ hi," triggering more cuteness.
Ji-woo also showed affection by placing her security blanket doll "Toto" in the stroller and caring for it with devotion. Even while running, Ji-woo tended carefully to "Toto," asking, "Toto, aren't you dizzy?" to check its condition and warm viewers' hearts. Then Ji-woo said, "I'll drive well," patted the doll and cautiously pushed the stroller, exploding with cuteness. Above all, completing the 2 km course was no easy task for 39-month-old Ji-woo, but she did not give up despite the difficulty and succeeded in finishing, delivering a moving moment.
Meanwhile, Ji-woo's sisterly moments caring for younger brother Si-woo drew admiration. Seeing the sweet potato kimchi Jang Dong-min made, Ji-woo worried, "Si-woo might find this a bit spicy," and personally fed him bite-sized pieces of nonspicy sweet potato stir-fry. Ji-woo's decisive care for her brother warmed viewers' hearts.
Meanwhile, The Return of SUPERMAN has been loved by the nation for 13 years since its first broadcast in 2013. It airs every Wednesday at 8:30 p.m.
