A fierce psychological battle unfolds between archrivals Kang Tae-oh and Jin Goo.
Moon River, a new MBC Friday-Saturday drama that will premiere on Nov. 7 at 9:50 p.m., written by Cho Seung-hee, directed by Lee Dong-hyun, planned by Kwon Seong-chang and produced by HiJieum Studio, is a historical romance fantasy drama about a crown prince who has lost his smile and a high official who has lost his memory swapping souls in a role-reversal (易地四肢).
In the drama, Lee Gang (played by Kang Tae-oh) pretends to be a ruffian on the surface but secretly dreams of revenge while bearing the wounds of a lost lover. His chief rival Kim Han-cheol (played by Jin Goo) harbors ambitions to dominate the court by seating his daughter as the crown princess. As a fierce psychological battle between the two men vying to achieve their goals is expected, we analyzed Lee Gang and Kim Han-cheol's abilities in advance.
First, Lee Gang is the crown prince acting as regent on behalf of the king and governing the court. Although he is the son of a king who came to the throne by a coup, he is about to ascend the throne and therefore holds a higher status than anyone else inside the palace. Instead of seeking power, he satisfies his material desires by lavishly decorating a private wardrobe in the Office of Clothing and focusing on enhancing his appearance, which lowers everyone's guard.
Contrary to people's view of him as an irresponsible crown prince, Lee Gang is currently waiting for an opportunity to overturn the palace rules set by the left state councilor and establish proper law and order. He is secretly investigating the truth surrounding his lover's death and devising a meticulous plan to bring down Left State Councilor Kim Han-cheol. It becomes intriguing whether Lee Gang, who possesses acting ability to deceive everyone and thorough preparedness, can succeed in his revenge.
Kim Han-cheol, Lee Gang's rival, has reached the pinnacle of power as left state councilor over the sovereign. Cold-blooded enough to have put a king on the throne with his own hands, he even uses his only daughter as a means to make his bloodline the royal line.
Unlike Lee Gang, who is burning with vengeance, Kim Han-cheol, who combines fierce desire with cool reason, starts pursuing his goals by any means necessary. Attention is focused on whether Kim Han-cheol, the true power in the court who can control even the king, will achieve his goal without yielding to Crown Prince Lee Gang's resistance.
Thus, Moon River raises expectations by previewing the power struggle between Crown Prince Lee Gang, who is preparing for revenge, and Left State Councilor Kim Han-cheol, who is ready to swallow the throne. Who will wear the smile of victory after this tense competition is worth watching.
