'Cheongryong Film Awards' hand-printing event brought actors together to talk.
On the 29th at CGV Yeouido in Seoul, the hand-printing event for the 46th Cheongryong Film Awards was held. Hosted by Park Kyung-rim, the event was attended by Hwang Jung-min, Kim Goeun, Jung Haein, Lee Sang-hee, Noh Sang-hyun, and Park Ju-hyun.
Launched in 1963 to promote the development of the domestic film industry, the Cheongryong Film Awards has become the most prestigious film award through a fair and transparent judging process. This year as well, the event will offer a festive night for the leading figures who lit up Korea's film industry and film fans who gather together to celebrate.
This year's Cheongryong Film Awards hand-printing event was attended by the winners of the 45th Cheongryong Film Awards held in November 2024 — Hwang Jung-min, Kim Goeun, Jung Haein, Lee Sang-hee, Noh Sang-hyun, and Park Ju-hyun — continuing the record of past winners. Hand-printing is a traditional pre-event of the Cheongryong Film Awards that commemorates the footsteps of filmmakers who received the honor at last year's awards.
Hwang Jung-min, who won the best actor award, said he was less nervous now. He added, "But the year passes so quickly, it's such a pity. The feelings and joys I had when I received the award are still in my heart, but won't they end when we do the hand-printing? I really don't like that. Still, thanks to it, I was very happy throughout last year."
Reflecting on the meaning of the Cheongryong Film Awards, Hwang Jung-min said, "It was my dream. The emotion when I won best actor for You Are My Destiny is still with me. To me, it is a gracious award. Always. When I talk about the Cheongryong Film Awards, I always tell people about it proudly."
He also spoke about his next film, Hope. Hwang Jung-min said with a laugh, "I think it will be released next year. I haven't seen the film either. I read the script." He hinted, "I play the police chief of a rural village, and an alien comes into the village, and it's a story about beating it up and stopping it. It sounds really absurd, but when you actually watch the film, you'll think, 'That could work.' It is scheduled to be released around July–August next year."
Kim Goeun, who won best actress for Exhuma, said, "The year passed in a flash. The overwhelming feeling when I received the award feels like just yesterday. Winning at the Cheongryong is as hard as plucking a star from the sky, so I'll work hard to be able to win four times like senior Hwang Jung-min."
She also shared viewing points for her upcoming project The Price of Confession. She said, "I meet senior Jeon Do-yeon again in a work after about 10 years. That will probably be the biggest point of interest. And about my role, there is nothing I can say. You have to watch it. But I hope you watch it because I prepared and acted with much thought and careful approach. You can watch it on Netflix in early Dec."
Jung Haein of Veteran 2 and Lee Sang-hee of My Name is Loh Kiwan were recognized for their outstanding acting by winning best supporting actor and best supporting actress respectively. Jung Haein said, "We filmed really hard, and I am happy to receive the award for a film that made me happy, and to be able to participate in a good event. It's my first time doing hand-printing, so I'm nervous, amazed, and excited." He added that Veteran 2 set a record for the number of stage greetings, saying, "I think it's a result made by the audience and fans who loved the film. The fact that we could keep doing stage greetings was possible because people came to the theaters, so it's a happy memory. And doing stage greetings improved my lower body. I went up and down a lot."
He also spoke about his next project. Preparing for the drama titled This F***ing Kind of Love, he laughed, "The drama title is a bit like that. It's a Netflix project, so I don't know how it will be translated." He added, "You can look forward to it. You will see many types of romance, comedy, action, and noir. Drama filming is scheduled through the end of Nov. After it finishes, I think I can rest."
Lee Sang-hee said, "I came here very excited. Can I take this after it's made?" and joked, "I clipped my nails before coming today," which drew laughter. On the meaning of the Cheongryong Film Awards, he said, "I'm someone who naturally has a critical mindset. I used to be like that about everything, and later especially about myself. Receiving an award at the Cheongryong has made that a bit less. Just. It's okay, you did well — I can say that now. After watching My Name is Loh Kiwan, my first thought was, 'Why is that girl rapping?' but now I have the courage to say, 'You did well.'"
Noh Sang-hyun of Love in the Big City and Park Ju-hyun of Drive announced the arrival of a new generation by winning the 45th Cheongryong Film Awards' best new actor and best new actress respectively. Noh Sang-hyun said, "It was an honor to receive the award, and it's an honor to leave a record as well; I came with an excited heart." When asked what wish he would make if there were a genie, he said with a laugh, "I'd wish to win the Cheongryong again. I have to go in order: supporting actor, leading actor. My remaining wish is that everyone stays healthy."
Park Ju-hyun said, "It was an honor to receive an award for my first screen work, and it's even more honorable to be alongside my seniors. The year really passed quickly. It's such a pity, and I need to win again next time. I'll work hard so I can stand here again." She added, "After winning, many people around me congratulated me. I'm from Busan, and the neighborhood was all excited." She also spoke about characters she wants to challenge, saying, "I want to try the 'evil' of evil. Like what senior Hwang Jung-min did. I want to become the 'female Hwang Jung-min' and play a character whose basic nature is truly evil."
About year-end plans, she said, "I recently ended my boxing career, and it's the first time since debut that I'll rest during the winter. I'm really excited. There were many places I wanted to go in winter, so I want to rest at the end of the year." When Park Kyung-rim suggested, "Then you should meet Kim Goeun at the end of the year," Park Ju-hyun immediately proposed publicly, "Sister, buy me a meal," which drew laughter. Kim Goeun replied, "We're school senior and junior. Of course," creating a warm moment.
Meanwhile, Korea's top film festival, the 46th Cheongryong Film Awards, will be held on Nov. 19 (Wed) at KBS Hall in Yeouido.
