'Hip Pop Princess' has gained word-of-mouth buzz and ignited a full-fledged surge in popularity.
The music video for the first track and title song 'Do my thang' from Mnet's Unpretty Rapstar: Hip Pop Princess (hereafter 'Hip Pop Princess'), released Friday the 24th, surpassed 2 million views within three days of release (a combined total of views from reels, Shorts, TikTok and other broadcast content). Immediately after release, it quickly broke records through word of mouth, accelerating its rise in popularity.
This music video was the result of the first track competition 'Hip Pop Challenge,' staged as a Korea-Japan showdown, and the entire winning Korean team drew attention by taking the main parts of the title song. Ten top-ranking Japanese contestants also participated in the track, and the overwhelming group choreography performed by all participants is also cited as the music video's Highlight. Main producer Gaeko personally directed the title track recording, raising its level of completion.
The 'Do my thang' challenge is also rapidly heating up on social media. After challenge videos from 40 participants were released in succession, the joint challenge video presented on social media by main producers Riehata and Iwata Takanori surpassed 1.3 million views and received an explosive response. Riehata even showed affection by liking participants' challenge videos directly.
Reactions online are also positive. Comments praising the contestants' skills — such as "the best skill level among all survival shows," "I don't think I've ever seen this level in an audition," and "they have debut-level skills as is" — have poured in, along with many messages cheering on the Korean and Japanese contestants. In addition, the global K-pop content platform Mnet Plus has shown upward trends across all metrics — cumulative views, total viewers, peak concurrent viewers, likes and comments — compared with the first broadcast, drawing in fans.
Meanwhile, the second vote that will determine the contestants' fate will be held from 12 a.m. Monday the 27th through 12 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 6 (KST). Voting is available via Mnet Plus in Korea and global regions, and via U-NEXT in Japan.
Hip Pop Princess airs every Thursday at 9:50 p.m. (KST) on Mnet and is available in Japan through U-NEXT.<
