The group Weeekly returned with an emotional new song that contains the narrative of five years.
Weeekly held a showcase at YES24 Live Hall in Gwangjin District, Seoul, on the afternoon of the 29th to celebrate the release of mini album 8 'Wonderland' and talked about the new album.
After promoting their mini album 7 'The Feelings' released in January, Weeekly, announcing a comeback about nine months later, said, "I'm excited and very nervous. The choreography and the song are so good that I want to show the stage as soon as possible. The members worked hard in preparation, so expectations are high," and added, "We prepared so that no matter which song you listen to, you can feel a fantastic mood. Please look forward to it."
In particular, this comeback drew attention as Kim Jun-seo, who recently debuted as Alphadriveone through Mnet's 'Boys 2 Planet', did not participate, and Kim Yo-han, who could not take part in the previous activities, joined.
Kim Yo-han said, "While preparing this album I felt a bit of time pressure, but it was so fun to dance and sing with the members again that I prepared very enjoyably. Everything is ready, so I just want to show it to the fans and the public as soon as possible," and added, "I'm very nervous to be on stage again, but starting today I will work harder as Weeekly and Kim Yo-han."
Weeekly's new release 'Wonderland' is an album confessing sincere feelings toward Ruai (the fandom name). It is characterized by comparing a place without worries and worries because they are together, and the joyful and happy feelings of being together to a wonderland.
Kim Dong-han said about the album, "It's an album about the fandom Ruai, about Ruai. I wanted to convey gratitude to the fans who always give great interest and love. It's a pretty album that contains the meaning of promising to be together in the future as well. I think once you listen you won't be able to get out of it, so I hope you listen just once."
The title track 'HOME' is a song that likens someone who stays by your side even in tired and difficult moments to a 'home', and carries the warmest message of comfort and promise to fans. Member Jang Dae-hyun participated in the lyrics, composition and arrangement, showing his capabilities.
Kim Dong-han said, "When deciding the title track we did a blind test. Usually, Seok-hwa does the guide for the songs Dae-hyun hyung wrote so you can tell right away when you hear them, but this time Dae-hyun hyung worked with someone else. So I didn't know Dae-hyun hyung wrote this song. Even so, this song was selected unanimously," drawing attention.
Jang Dae-hyun, who said the title track was inspired by the fandom Ruai, explained, "It's a song that likens someone you can lean on when you're having a hard and tiring time to a home," and added, "I felt that Ruai has already soaked into Weeekly a lot. I thought about what you could lean on when you are having a hard time and chose the theme of home. I worked by projecting the things fans said when we met them."
When asked about the album's kick, Kim Yo-han replied, "I'd like to call it a dramatic emotional line. If you watch our stage, both the choreography and the lyrics contain a dramatic narrative, so if you take that as a point it might become the kick."
When asked if he had talked with Kim Jun-seo while preparing the album, Kang Seok-hwa replied, "He cheered a lot, saying the choreography and the song that came out this time are so cool," and added, "He told me to listen to it a lot too. We're cheering each other on a lot."
Kim Yo-han said, "We do a lot of individual activities, and I think that while doing personal activities each person can positively influence raising awareness of Weeekly as a group. Then when we gather, synergy seems to occur."
Kim Dong-han, on teamwork, said, "There's nothing particular we try to do. There's exactly one reason our teamwork is so good. We meet often. No matter who is doing what, we see each other at least once a week," showcasing their exceptional teamwork.
Now marking their fifth anniversary since debut, Weeekly said, "I want to say thank you first. I can't believe it's already our fifth anniversary, and because there are so many memories I think we can make even more memories beyond that. We returned with an album like a gift for the fans who made it possible to reach our fifth anniversary; I hope we can be together for a long, long time," expressing gratitude to their fans.
Finally, on the goals for this promotion, they said, "This album also came out after a long time. I had a lot of confidence in the title track 'Home.' More than any label, I hope people will say the song is really good when they hear 'Home,'" and added, "There are many short forms, and due to algorithm influence, we want to fill everyone's algorithm with Home."
