In Our Baby Was Born Again, actress Park Bomi and former soccer player Park Yohan revealed the circumstances when they sent their first son, Simon, to heaven.
On the 28th, the TV CHOSUN variety show Our Baby Was Born Again (abbreviated as Oooagi) featured Park Bomi and Park Yohan.
Bravely carrying her second daughter Seolbok at 34 weeks' pregnancy, Park Bomi recalled that two years earlier their first son, Simon, tragically died at only 15 months old. Park Bomi said with a forced smile, I really like talking about our Simon. I actually want to talk about him more. Of course it was hard and sad, but he is a baby I am so proud of and want to boast about.
She said, The hospital couldn't determine the cause. We took every possible measure. It wasn't a fever-induced convulsion and they couldn't find the cause. Until the day before he had met friends, played joyfully and ate well. He was so brave that day too. But in the early morning he developed a fever. My husband was at a Namhae match then. Fevers are very common in babies. We rotated medicines and gave antipyretics and the fever went down, she recalled.
She continued, But in the morning his face was slightly red again, so we went to a nearby pediatric clinic. There were 23 people waiting. It was the time when people crowded pediatric clinics because of COVID-19 and it was the weekend. Simon usually did not cry much. But at that clinic he cried a lot. I thought we couldn't wait, so I took the stroller down and asked sisters and brothers in the neighborhood who were very close to us for help. I was going to take Simon to the hospital. While putting him in the car, his body suddenly stiffened in my arms and then went limp, she explained.
Park Bomi said, You have a feeling, right? I don't even know how we moved. Then at the emergency room I called my husband and my mother. Mom, I think Simon is dead. The baby won't wake up. I told my husband I thought Simon was dead. My husband was supposed to enter the match in two minutes, but after receiving the call he was so shocked he immediately booked a ticket and came up, she said.
Park Yohan said, At that time it was the quarterfinals, an important match. He normally doesn't make calls, so I wondered why he would call before the match. He said Simon wasn't breathing and might be dead, and I couldn't really believe it either.
Park Bomi said, Many people in the emergency room kept trying to save Simon, but his heart didn't beat. He had been in cardiac arrest for 40 minutes. Suddenly the doctor said miraculously his heart was beating, but because the cardiac arrest period was so long they needed to run tests. They tested and there was no response in his brain at all. He was moved to the intensive care unit. The machine kept his heart beating, but we spent the last week in the intensive care unit. I thought Simon's heart must have started beating again to give his mom and dad time, she said.
