French-born broadcaster Robin Dayana and former LPG member Kim Seoyeon announced a missed miscarriage, drawing sympathy.
On the 27th, a video titled "The day we went to check the baby's heartbeat. And, goodbye" was uploaded to the 'Robubu' channel.
That day, Robin and Kim Seoyeon visited an obstetrics clinic to hear the baby's heartbeat. However, after the ultrasound, the doctor explained, "At this stage the baby's heart should be beating and somewhat visible, but it seems slightly underdeveloped. The yolk sac has become a bit enlarged. Usually at this point the yolk sac size shrinks and its nutrients transfer to the baby as development progresses. But it has swollen instead, and based on timing this is the point when the baby's heartbeat should be clearly visible, but there is no visible sign."
He said, "If it is confirmed to be a complete miscarriage, surgery is better. But at this timing, if you can't see the baby's heartbeat, it's generally considered difficult. Also in terms of timing. And the fact that the yolk sac is a bit swollen seems bad. There are cases where we might have scheduled the timing a bit early, but the swollen yolk sac looks worse. One option is to wait one more period of time and check again. From my perspective, that possibility doesn't look very high, so you could schedule the surgery and come in early that morning to check the condition and run the necessary tests before proceeding." He cautiously recommended surgery.
Hearing this, Kim Seoyeon worried, "Is this because there's something wrong with my body?" The doctor said, "It's likely there is nothing wrong with the mother's body. This time it is more likely a problem on the baby's side. If there were an issue with the mother's body, problems would appear first on the placenta. When the embryo initially forms, it develops so one part becomes the fetus and some parts go toward making the placenta and the baby's sac. The process of the baby sac and placenta cooperating with the mother's uterus to supply nutrients appears to be functioning normally even now. Up until recently as well."
He continued, "The baby should take that and grow well, but it seems development inside is encountering a problem and not progressing. So on the positive side, these systems in the mother's body are working properly, which means next time at birth the baby could be healthy." He offered reassurance.
The heartbreaking news brought both to tears. That evening, when they turned the camera on again, their reddened eyes added to the sorrow. Kim Seoyeon tried to joke, "Maybe it's to ward off bad luck. My brother should have filmed me crying," and said, "The doctor seemed like he was crying too. The nurse was crying before I was. When she saw it, she suddenly made sobbing sounds. When I looked at the ultrasound we were like, 'Oh?' but the doctor knows. It takes a long time, and I heard that nurse make those sounds."
Robin said, "When I looked at the doctor's face and he went, 'uh..' I felt something was wrong," and Kim Seoyeon explained, "They said it's quite common. They said it happens a lot around us. But after a dilation and curettage, it becomes clean and pregnancy often succeeds again." Robin emphasized, "That doesn't cause any lasting problems. Even if you want to get pregnant right away, there's no issue," and Kim Seoyeon added, "I'll just be a little down since it's the day of the procedure."
Kim Seoyeon expressed a desperate hope, "But I wonder if a miracle might happen," and Robin said, "That would be so grateful," while adding, "For now we'll rest a bit." Once the uterus is clean, implantation can happen strongly. It happens more often than you think. When I told close older sisters who have children, they said there were many cases around them.
